Goal: Write at least 100 words everyday. I know it's an embarrassingly small goal compared to everyone else, but I'm not exactly the most prolific of writers, and I want to get into the habit of writing more often.
Title: Kilometer Zero Synopsis: Rei's early days in Japan, essentially. Rating: K/G, not sure. Might go up, but will not go beyond T/PG-13. Main Characters: Furuya Rei and Miyano Elena (Still deciding whether Rei meets Scotch in this.) Notes: Depending on how canon pans out, some parts or the entirety of this fic may either be canon compliant or a canon-divergence AU. Here, Rei's MI6 parents are mysteriously killed, he ends up in Elena's care, and they end up moving to Japan from the UK. Elena and Mrs. Furuya are sisters because I'm honestly still hoping the hint toward Mary and Elena being sisters is one giant red herring. The basic idea behind this fic has been festering in my mind since last year, but I only started writing this last month--just a few scenes here and there. I'm still working out on a lot of the details, so I'm not sure whether this'll be a oneshot or something longer. To be honest, I'm actually scared it may become a multichapter because, in all likelihood, I may never finish it.
I won't be writing this fic linearly (because some parts are easier to write and need less research than others), so I'm not going to set a certain number of chapters--if this ever becomes a multichapter--to be finished by the end of this event. Considering how I not normally don't write on a regular basis (and I've been struggling with my writing for the past several years), I'll be happy just to be able to write a little bit everyday. . . . It seems I may have achieved my goal already (or maybe it's just too low)? I was hoping to write at least 3,000 words by the end of the month, maybe 4,000 to 5,000 if I'm inspired, but I've shockingly already exceeded my upper limit. (Almost 6 k as of tonight!) It didn't even take me a week to reach my minimum target (took me until Day Six), what is this madness? I've written more words alone for Week One than I have in years! Granted, a lot of it is scatterbrained, unorganized, and utter crap (at best, I'd consider it decent or mediocre), but that's why revision exists, I guess. That said, as my goal is more process-driven than outcome-oriented, I shall continue to chug along with my minimum of a hundred words a day, and see how long it would take before I crash and burn where this takes me. (Plus, Kilometer Zero has already metastasized into a multichapter. What have I gotten myself into?) I'm actually thinking of this as way to develop writing discipline in the long term, since as I've discovered during this event, it seems I need some pressure to be productive, or else I'd procrastinate forever! Word Count Stats:
Week One: November 1st to 7th
November 1st (Tuesday): 242 words November 2nd (Wednesday): 284 words November 3rd (Thursday): 296 words November 4th (Friday): 1,031 words November 5th (Saturday): 868 words November 6th (Sunday): 900 words November 7th (Monday): 228 words Week One Total: 3,849 words Week One Daily Average: 549.86 words Week Two: November 8th to 14th
November 8th (Tuesday): 454 words November 9th (Wednesday): 807 words November 10th (Thursday): 292 words November 11th (Friday): 523 words November 12th (Saturday): 703 words November 13th (Sunday): 468 words November 14th (Monday): 179 words Week Two Overall Total: 3,426 words Week Two Daily Average: 489.43 words Overall Total: 7,275 words* Overall Daily Average: 519.64 words *Not entirely accurate since I've deleted some passages and words during editing and revision. I tend to edit and revise a lot whenever I'm uninspired; it seems to help with my writer's block a bit. Additional Comments:1. As I'm prone to going back and changing things (not to mention I'm absolutely incapable of writing longer fic in order), I won't be posting anything until I finish it (if ever that happens). 2. The fic's turning out to be a bit more plottier than I originally intended, because chibi Rei, much like his adult self, insists on being the proactive character that he is. And to think I just wanted a oneshot of Rei and Elena's adventures (because I'm dying to see the promised flashback between the two, but it seems Aoyama- sensei's prioritizing other subplots), plus an attempt to explore the "zero" motif Rei has going on. Oh, boy. 3. Scotch is in this fic! And he and Rei are going to be childhood friends, because I honestly can't see it any other way (outside of the "Rei grew up in the BO" scenario, which isn't the case in this fic), sorry. 4. Portions of the fic read like an essay sometimes, especially whenever I write about the differences between the UK and Japan. Ugh. 5. Fleshing out Elena and the Furuya parents is hard. 6. Forgot to mention this in my initial goal post, but this fic is also an attempt at exploring the hafu (half-Japanese) experience. I don't know if this is something that should constitute a trigger warning, but I'll mention it just in case. 7. Earlier tonight, I've somehow managed bring up issues of race and Japan's relations with its neighbors, China and Korea. >__< Might chuck it altogether if it turns out to be too controversial. Why, brain, why? 8. Although I've already written a rough draft, set-up stage is absolutely killing me. Reporting a little bit earlier before I find myself in the throes of nausea and excruciating cramps (stupid endometriosis!): Week Three: November 15th to 21st
November 15th (Tuesday): 424 words November 16th (Wednesday): 92 words*November 17th (Thursday): 122 words November 18th (Friday): 236 words November 19th (Saturday): 408 words November 20th (Sunday): 359 words November 21st (Monday): 172 words Week Two Overall Total: 1,813 words Week Two Daily Average: 259 words Overall Total: 9,088 words** Overall Daily Average: 432.76 words *I technically wrote more than a hundred words worth of Conan fic, but only 92 of those words went to Kilometer Zero. I tried, but I couldn't overcome writer's block for that particular fic. **Not entirely accurate since I've deleted some passages and words during editing and revision. I tend to edit and revise a lot whenever I'm uninspired; it seems to help with my writer's block a bit. Not sure I'll be able to survive this week, to be honest. . . .

Week 4 Update You know, there's always one of those weeks where you never know what you've done but you know you've done something that should be consider as constructive but you personally don't think it is....It's that type of week for me. I wrote, though not sure if I really should call it writing. I filled up on the 'words' but it didn't seem to be helping the plot a single bit. But if I delete the scene, it'll sound really strange in the long run... Such a conflicting thought...

Update: Chapter 6 is out: current posted wordcount is 5.1K. I've written 11K or so for a different story. Nothing else been done I guess. Haha.

Week 5 Status: 14.8/25k words
Don't think I'm going to make my goal, considering I've been at my parents' all week and haven't had much time to write, what with two of my uncles from overseas in town. That and lots of food preparation for turkey day tomorrow...

Update: Chapter 7 is out, ca. 57K has been posted. Nothing else has been done as I'm reading to my exam in a week. I won't be publishing anything else before after then, as I intend to rewrite chapter 8.

Week 5 Update
Before I do my update, I must say we should all pat ourselves on the back for sticking with our goals and not abandon our stories that was once placed on the back burner.
Now then, I would also wish to say, whoever has told me November should be the least busiest month of the year really should have their heads checked seeing as I've barely have the time to sleep let alone write. Thank higher powers for the invention of the smart phone (actually, I should thank Motorola for the invention, don't ask me how I can remember that) and thank heavens I finally swapped out my old phone. I did all my writing in those measly minutes I scrounged up here and there. I still have high hopes to achieve the goal. I am trying to stay positive so I should probably do the whole encouragement speech in front of the mirror or something ("I can do this. I can do this.").
One more week! Time surely flies...

Hi all. Long time no see. I've been super depressed since the election and its aftermath and the onset of winter, so I haven't been able to do much writing lately. I've mainly been desperately trying to better educate myself about politics so that I will be prepared to help all of those who are going to be oppressed or in need come the implementation of the new regime. Anyway. I did get one RanKai piece done, so I've technically met my minimum goal for this event. I wish I had been able to do more, but my country needs educated lay-members more than the internet needs more fanfiction, so... But below are the links to what I was able to write. Better luck next time, I guess. :/ www.fanfiction.net/s/12252352/1/Codewww.poirotcafe.com/post/15265/thread

Final update: I have about half of the next chapter of Switched written.
I don't feel too bad about it though. This month was really busy and I actually got several chapters updated for other fandom stories. I had been needing to update those ones, so it worked out.

I tend to edit and revise a lot whenever I'm uninspired; it seems to help with my writer's block a bit. Well, it looks like I've been (mostly) successful in achieving my goal. I'm a bit annoyed that the 16th was eight freakin' words short of achieving my daily minimum, though. To be honest, considering how well I did during the first half of the month, I actually hoped I could write twelve to fifteen thousand words by the end of the event, but go figure I couldn't keep up with that pace for that long. But, hey, 11.5 thousand words is pretty close, and it's so much more than I could have dreamed of when I first started this event. I've written more words last month than I have in nearly a decade! I don't even know how I've had the discipline to write for the same WIP everyday for the past month; honestly, I've had days when I was just so uninspired or overwhelmed that I wanted to abandon the fic altogether (but Bourbon and Scotch wouldn't let me, LOL). I think it really helped that along with this, I also signed up for Mini NaNoWriMo, which was the inspiration for my goal for this event. I first saw the Finish It! thread a few days after, but shied away from joining immediately because I couldn't think of a realistic goal. I have to say, all those words really do pile up, and maybe writing a multichapter isn't an absolute impossibility anymore, if I could just have the discipline to work on it little by little. . . . We shall see! I definitely want to look into getting a beta reader once it's more presentable (if it ever does happen). As for an update specific to last week, considering my health during the earlier half of the week, I'm quite surprised I actually had the willpower to write—I must be a masochist. The pain and nausea wasn't as bad as it could have been, or maybe I've just become too used to living with endometriosis these past couple of years. Also managed to do some research about British culture and the UK, which was nice. I hope we could do this again. Hi all. Long time no see. I've been super depressed since the election and its aftermath and the onset of winter, so I haven't been able to do much writing lately. Had my family's move to the US had pushed through a few years ago (2012 or 2013, I think), I'd be terribly concerned for me and my family's future. Thankfully, as far as I know, all of my relatives in the US are either natural-born citizens or have already been naturalized for several years, so I don't have to worry about them, at the very least. (Some of them voted for Trump, though, sorry. T__T) And you did manage to have a finished product, which is more than I can say for myself. I'll try to read it this weekend, if not sooner. (Super long post is long, I know. I'm normally more of a lurker, but when I do post, eight times out ten I end up rambling too much. Sorry.)

Week 6/Final Status: 15k/25k wordsSo I missed my goal by a pretty wide margin. I may or may not have been a bit overly ambitious in my goal setting. But, the fact that I churned out a chapter and a half instead of my targeted three is fine with me—I'm quite happy, considering that I was stumped for a good while with how to navigate through my plot outline. That and as of yesterday, my brain has since been shanghaied by a MK plot bunny that I've written 3k words for. A round of applause to everyone who participated: Addy01, Mikauzoran, phantomshyraz, Cesela, boogum, and Ran-dezvous! Even if you didn't reach your goal (like me), the fact that we were all writing despite being busy and/or not motivated is an accomplishment in and of itself! And thanks to twinborn for the moral support!

Final Update
It seems I had been too ambitious in my goal. The story now rests at 22k words and I've only just written the part where 'Snow White' had eaten the poisoned apple. Not wanting to give away too much plot (a moot point seeing as many would know about the story of snow white), I stuck to the original story, which may be why it took so long to write. I still have to introduce 'Prince Charming', and how he saved 'Snow White'. But even though I know what must happen, putting words to thought is still difficult.
Anyhow, should I manage to finish this before end of the year, I'll see if I can post the story here. If not, and if you're still interested, check out my FF.net account (a bit of shameless promotion isn't it?).

All right. Thank you very much to everyone who participated! I hope you found this to be a valuable event and that you all made at least some progress towards your goal. Everyone wrote something, so I feel that this was successful. Sorry I wasn't around more during the event. :/ I'm slowly recovering and trying not to work myself into the ground in the meantime. ^.^; Thanks to everyone for the understanding and support.
Anyway. Back to our regularly scheduled programming. I hope to start up the next 6-8k as soon as I get the next theme from Cesela, and I also hope to start this year's Secret Santa in the next day or two as well. We'll have the 5k beginning around the middle of the month, and that last week will be the Super Short. I plan to do the next Prompt Exchange in January. Sound good? I hope so. ^.^;
Thanks again to all of you for making our forum awesome by sharing your gifts here. I hope to see you soon.
