Hey guys! I decided to make a new thread for the drama CD so that it didn't interfere with the MK1412 anime discussion. You can find the audio here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoPWV4J6-vMAnd here's a repost of the summary of the first minute: Apparently the Shounen Tanteidan have gone to see a movie (Tantei Red Jacket). It opens up with them chatting about how cool it was. Conan, of course, thought it was so-so because he figured out the mystery right away in the first five minutes. Additionally, he feels like he's being watched. We cut to Kaito who can't believe who was sitting in the seat in front of him at this particular theatre at this particular movie. Of all the rotten luck, of course Conan would pop up unexpectedly the day Kaito just happens to see this film. Meanwhile, Conan says that the main actor's (who apparently Ai likes) acting was also not the greatest. Ai is now gripping her movie pamphlet in anger. Ayumi asks what's wrong.

Before Ai can explain, Mitsuhiko cuts her off, saying that they should all go to the bookstore together to get the new Tantei Red Jacket that just came out that day. Conan, of course, too cool to accompany them, says he's going home first. They then comment upon what a buzz kill Conan is, always putting a damper on things when they were all excited and enjoying each other's company.
Ai says that she's going to buy another movie pamphlet since she has crushed the one she had in anger, but then Mitsuhiko comments that sold with the Tantei Red Jacket book is a poster of the actor that Ai likes. She decides to accompany them to the bookstore.
We cut back to Kaito, chuckling about how awesome Tantei Red Jacket is...unlike a certain chibi tantei he knows.
Cue opening theme music.

After the exciting theme music ends, we find ourselves back at the Professors, and the Shounen Tanteidan have been unsuccessful on their quest for the Tantei Red Jacket book. As it turns out, a man wearing a weird hat just happened to buy the last copy. Genta comments that the guy was probably just doing it out of spite because there's no way that he was a fan.
Kaito (who seems to have planted a listening device so that he could stalk and creep on the poor children) argues that he is a fan and then chuckles as he boasts over having gotten the last one. Sorry kiddies.
Unaware that they are being eavesdropped upon, Hakase says that that's a real shame. The misguided, misinformed Professor then attempts to cheer the children up with their favorite: a quiz! Oh boy!
(I've just realized that I'm not straight up translating or summarizing but somehow injecting my own wit and snide comments into my summary. Sorry. ^.^; My translations always somehow manage to get my sense of humor mixed into them. ^.^; So just ignore my running commentary.)

The quiz is: The martial art most linked with today's Shounen Tanteidan is...? (At least I think that's what he's saying.)
A. Judo B. Kendo C. Karate
Ayumi has never done martial arts, and Mitsuhiko isn't really good at that type of thing, but Genta helpfully points out that Ran does karate. Ai announces that the answer is judo because both kendo and karate have "tsuki" in them (I think tsuki here means thrusts or lunges) whereas judo doesn't (being a sport that uses the attacking opponent's own force against them instead of straight out attacking). Ai says that they also don't have "tsuki". I don't know guys, but when I translated the Chinese subtitles at the bottom of the screen, it said "there is no next time for them". So yeah.

Anyway, after the quiz, Genta goes back to complaining about Conan and how this is all his fault. Mitsuhiko is about to tell Genta that logically that doesn't make sense when Ai jumps in saying that Conan's behavior has everything to do with them not getting the last Tantei Red Jacket book.
Genta and Mitsuhiko note that Ai is a little more vindictive and out to get Conan than usual today. They suppose this has something to do with that snide comment Conan made about the actor (Sanomiya). Ai seems to be a fan. Mitsuhiko notes that Haibara is currently looking at them with a very intense look in her eye, kind of like a demonic death glare. He thinks she looks pretty like that too, the poor guy.
Anyway, the Shounen Tanteidan start plotting their revenge on Conan in order to knock him down a few pegs. They decide to come up with riddles for him to solve, only...they're pretty sure that Conan will be able to solve their riddles pretty quickly, so they enlist the help of the Professor and Haibara. Haibara thinks this sounds amusing and is only too happy to help.

We cut back to Kaito who is highly amused by the idea of challenging the Meitantei. He is promptly bothered by a bird. (I can't really figure out what those sound effects are, if the bird has pooped on him or just landed, so...regardless,) He tells the bird to go away. He is NOT a telephone pole!
Meanwhile, the Shounen Tanteidan confront and challenge Conan. They will be giving Conan four clues to lead him to the treasure. He has two hours until the time limit of five o'clock. If he can solve the riddles and find the treasure in time, he'll win, but if not, he loses. Ayumi hands him the envelope with the first clue that he's not to open for another five minutes. The Shounen Tanteidan are off to the waiting place in the meantime.
Conan complains that it's not like he accepted their challenge or anything. Haibara comments that isn't it a detective's job to accept all challenges. Conan notes that Ai seems a little testy today. She claims that it's only his imagination. In the meantime, five minutes has passed, so Conan reluctantly opens the envelope.

The first clue is... The comedian hates octopus. (Yeah. Seriously. Don't think about it too hard. I'm sure Conan will translate after he thinks about it for a sec.) Unless he actually hates tacos. I've made that mistake before when speaking in English in Japan to a Korean/Japanese girl. She said she liked tacos, and I heard "tako (octopus)". I LOVE octopus. Tacos, not so much.
Anyway, Ai says that if he goes to the place that the first clue indicates, he'll find the second clue.
Conan starts to think. When you say "octopus" in this town, you automatically think a fish shop, a sushi restaurant, a place that serves takoyaki (stop making me hungry Shin-chan. Seriously. Stop.)...hmmm.... Ha! Yeah right. No way that this has Conan stumped. He proudly proclaims that this is an easy riddle. (For you maybe. No wonder your friends are fed up with you. You really are a know-it-all. Didn't you learn anything about modesty from your near-death experience with the Organization? I'm disappointed in you. At least in how Aoyama-sensei characterizes you as never learning your lesson.)
Not only comedians, but also students preparing for exams hate octopus (?). A word both comedians and students hate is suberu or "to slip" or "slide" (I'm guessing he's talking about grades for the students.), therefore the answer is suberu tako, and there's only one place in town like that.
And so they set off. Conan wonders why Haibara is coming along with him. Isn't she on the Shounen Tanteidan's side? She says that she's playing the part of his guard or keeping an eye on him. She's there to make sure he doesn't slack or run off halfway through.
They arrive at a park! Apparently the "sliding octopus" meant the octopus slide in the park. Interesting. Good job, Conan! Regardless, Mitsuhiko is there to give us our second clue.

(*Wags tail* Milk tea?! Yay!!! I looooove milk tea. Especially green milk tea. Especially from Uji, just to the south of Kyoto. *Sighs* I wanna go home to my little apartment.
(Anyway. It would make more sense if it were a dog that peed on him. It's just that that sounds nothing like a dog. Believe me. I know. My children are dogs, and I kind of spend about seventy-five percent of my time in their company. I think you're right, though. It probably was supposed to be a dog. Now that I think about it, the dogs in the anime/manga never look like real dogs, and they don't sound like dogs either. The eyes are all wrong.
(And no problem! The riddles are a little difficult, but it's a good challenge for me. I have nothing else to do besides go to the gym and vacuum the dog hair off of the couch until they call me back and tell me when my first day of work is anyway. I'm glad you're enjoying it. Please disregard my cheeky commentary mixed in with the summary. ^.^; I can't turn it off.)

Conan, still snotty and stuck up as ever, tells Mitsuhiko what's the point since Conan will solve these easy riddles in the blink of an eye. Mitsuhiko says that this next one is harder before he rushes off to go wait at the place where the treasure is located.
"Ekonomi de shiberia he" or "With/Using economy, to Siberia" is the next clue. (What? Well, I do suppose you could buy a plane ticket. Hmm.) Conan seems as puzzled as I am. Haibara helpfully taunts him by saying, "What's the matter? Didn't you say you'd solve it in a flash? Don't hold back. Go right ahead, Meitantei-san!" Conan mutters, "Shut up." and thinks to himself that, as he thought, Haibara seems angry today. He doesn't know what's causing it, though.
Conan walks by a travel agency and doesn't find Ayumi there, so he decides that that line of thinking was too direct. Haibara helpfully taunts him. "You didn't think that the keywords 'economy' and 'Siberia' meant a travel agency, did you?!" Conan replies that he just happened to pass by is all. Haibara responds that of course. He's such a great detective after all. Conan thinks, "Just wait. I'll solve it any minute now."
He starts thinking about the different meanings of economy including keiki (business, state, condition). Keiki become katakana ケーキ (cake). Apparently "Siberia cake" means something to Conan. He takes off with Haibara to the location of the third clue!

Next we arrive at a shop selling "Siberian cake". It happens to be the only place in town with it. He doesn't think Ayumi and them would know about such a place, so he assumes the Professor had a hand in this.
Haibara does a sarcastic slow clap and tells him that his deduction was perfect...though it pains her to say it. She calls for Ayumi to come out of hiding. She does so and hands Conan the next clue. Conan is surprised that they're still going to play this game, and Ayumi says that they'll never give up until the very end.
Ayumi runs off thinking that Conan really is amazing. If Hakase and Ai weren't helping, there would be no way that the Shounen Tanteidan could wi--Ah! She crashes right into a young man with a sexy voice. Kaito asks if she's okay, if she's uninjured, and Ayumi says that she's fine and sorry she ran into him before dashing off. Kaito chuckles, "Well then, it looks like it's almost my turn, doesn't it?"
Back with Conan, the third riddle is "Panda no mise wa fruits ga nai fruits parlor." Or "The panda's shop is a fruit parlor without any fruit." (In this case, it's fruits as a type of dessert.) Haibara remarks that it's such a simple riddle. All they have to do is go to a fruits parlor.
Conan rolls his eyes saying that he knows based on the riddles up until this point that it's not just going to be an actual fruits parlor. Except...wait...maybe this time it is just an actual fruits parlor!

Meanwhile, Ayumi contacts Genta to let him know that Conan has already made it to her location, even though not even an hour has passed. Genta tells her to go ahead and wait at the final destination. Genta then freaks because he thinks he sees Conan coming, but he's mistaken.
Then the Professor shows up startling Genta. Genta asks him why he's there, if he's come to play pachinko. Hakase says of course not. He's come for the guard change because it would be bad and attract a lot of attention to have a grade schooler standing outside of a pachinko parlor for a long time. He tells Genta to go ahead and wait with the others since Conan should be along shortly. Genta hands the fourth clue over to the Professor...who is actually Kid in disguise!
Back with Conan who is riding on a bus, Ai asks how Conan knew it was a pachinko parlor. Conan says that if it's a fruits parlor without fruits, it's just a parlor, and pachinko parlors are commonly just called parlors. They get off the bus and Haibara asks how he knew which parlor it was. Conan remarks that the pandas at the Ueno Zoo at the moment are named Shinshin and Riri. This parlor just happens to be called "Parlor Riri".
They go inside and find the Professor (Kid) there with a paper back full of snacks. He offers them some because he can't possibly eat all of them on his own. Conan and Ai immediately realize that that's not actually the Professor.

If it were actually the Professor, there would be no way he'd eat snacks like that in such a carefree manner in front of Haibara. (We all know about the special diet she's got him on and how scary she can be about it.) Conan explains about the diet and says that the Professor would be shaking in fear if he got caught. Haibara gives him one of those looks and makes him apology for calling her scary.
Kaito (as Hakase) replies, "As expected of the great detective." And then I imagine that sound effect is him brandishing his cape and losing the disguise. He announces that there's nothing up his sleeves, counts to three, and makes a lone red rose appear. Conan wants to know what the heck Kid is doing here. Kid explains that he happened upon (*cough*was stalking small children*cough*) the Shounen Tanteidan plotting their revenge against Conan and decided that he wanted to help out, so he disguised as the Professor. Of course the great detective will accept Kid's challenge, will he not?
Kaito disappears in what sounds like a thick cloud of his signature pink smoke, leaving behind a clue in an envelope. Haibara urges Conan to open it.
"To my beloved Meitantei, today at five o'clock I will be coming to the following イ, ウ, or エ jewel store.
イ. 宝岡 Jewel Shop (Not sure of the reading of the first syllable. It means "treasure" and can be pronounced "takara" by itself, but in this combo, it should be hou. But that's not what it sounds like Kid is saying. :/ Anyway, the reading of the second character is "oka" it means "hill".)
ウ. Jewelry Yuki
エ. Crystal Gem (Literally it was crystal in katakana and the kanji for houseki.)
Where will I appear? If you solve the riddle, we'll meet."

This is really cool! WHY wouldn't they have animated this? I wanna see Kaito messing with Conan! Thanks a ton for translating this, I quite frankly can't believe you have this much patience! I've never looked much into the drama cd's, but this looks really interesting!

(Haha. No problem. I actually really like translating. This is more of an interpretation job, though, since there's no Japanese text to translate. I've never liked interpreting for some reason, but this is okay. It's a challenge, especially since it's all riddles which are notoriously difficult. I think I'm getting it okay, though. The only one that I haven't really understood was the tsuki one with the martial arts.
(That being said, the Chinese subtitles are a godsend! I'm half deaf in one ear, so the subtitles make up a little for my inability to hear. I'm using a dictionary to look up the Chinese characters by radical to make sure I got it right when I have trouble hearing or have some doubt about whether I got it right. My time studying in China is coming in handy! And I'm learning some new Chinese on top of remembering the stuff I've learned in the past.)
