MY GOSH DUDE HOW MANY LANGUAGES ARE YOU LEARNING? i know about spanish and japanese, but DUDE now chinese too??? *i am not worthy* ...But yeah, when you say your're "half-deaf", do you mean that figuratively (like you're bad at listening) or literally (like, you got an ear infection and suffered acute hearing loss)? that's a dumb question to ask, but it popped up in my mind... And i think we all know how it is with japanese riddles. Thank you Agasa and Kaito, for being SO KIND to your foreign fans

(Continuing with the riddle!)
"I know Orion's children. Four of the boys like to go for walks. Three boys like to look up at the sky. Five of the boys are left-handed. That's all! I wish you luck! ~Kaitou Kid"
Haibara helpfully chimes in that they only have thirty minutes left until five o'clock. She tells Conan to call Nakamori-keibu and have him send his men to protect the three locations.
Conan calls as Shinichi, telling the Inspector that a heist is about to occur, and by the end of thirty minutes he'll have figured out the location, if the Taskforce could please be at the ready. Haibara doesn't think this is the best idea, but Conan smugly reminds her "Wasn't it you that said that a detective accepts any challenge?"
They read over the note again, and Haibara notices that the numbering/lettering system is off. Usually it's アイウ or イロハ. Conan thinks that this definitely means something. They look at the second part of the note and Conan deduces that, like the other riddles from Ayumi and them, this riddle from Kid is meant to lead him somewhere else in town where he will find a clue about which place the heist will take place.

(I've actually studied a lot of different languages. When I was younger, whenever I got bored, I would get books from the library, dictionaries and grammar books, and I would start teaching myself a new language. The only languages that I'm really proficient in are Japanese, Spanish, and English, but I've studied French, Chinese, and Korean too along with a minute bit of Russian. Due to my knowledge of Spanish and French, it's very easy for me to pick up on other romance languages too, so I can understand the gist of Italian and Portuguese on a basic level. The grammar is very similar, and there are a lot of loan words that are similar or the same.
(In other news, yes. I have issues with one of my ears. It's acute, but I'm always having to listen really hard, and sometimes I don't hear people, and they have to repeat themselves. I'm actually a really good listener if you speak up. ^.^; My brother has the same problem in his opposite ear, so we think it's a genetic thing. I've never experienced any trauma that would lead to hearing loss, but, regardless, my brother and I both have issues. *Shrugs*)

Conan puzzles over the riddle and comments that there used to be a theatre called Orion, but it's since been demolished and is now an empty lot. They start trying to think of other things having to do with Orion, and they come up with Mitsuboshi ("three stars" like how mitsubishi means "three diamonds") Book Store. They take off. When they get there, Haibara sees a sign about the Tantei Red Jacket book that says that the next time it will be on sale is not yet determined. Haibara gets flaming mad but shakes it off when Conan comments on how she's making such a scary face. They spot a ( ) children's library (I think. Jidoushouku?) Apparently it's named "Orion", and there are kids hanging around it, so they go to investigate. They decide that the numbers in the riddle (the four that like taking walks, the three sky-gazers, and the five left-handed ones) are numbers that are a way of counting something, so they should look for that number of things. Just then a small child runs into Haibara, and his mother/caretaker tells him not to run around the bookshelves. Haibara notices the bookshelves and points them out to Conan because there are four. They next try to find the "three" in the riddle. The key words are walk, sky, and left-handed.

Conan deduces that he must walk to the the fourth bookshelf. From the bottom up (like the sky-gazers looking up), it's the third shelf. The third shelf is children's literature. It's the fifth one from the left (the five left-handed boys from the riddle). The book is Ie Naki Ko ("homeless child" or "child without a home" literally. Also known as Nobody's Boy: Remi. It's an anime based on the French book Sans Famille).
Apparently this means something to Conan, for he proclaims Kid's aim to be Jewelry Yuki. And they've got seven minutes left until five o'clock. Haibara will take care of calling Nakamori while Conan goes ahead to the shop. Conan says that he won't make it just running and it would be better to use his skateboard. (Have you been running around with that thing the whole time? Do you have an inter-dimensional pocket or something that you keep it in like Link? Oh. Never mind. He's gone home to get it. Apparently the Detective Agency was on the way. *Shrugs*)
Anyway, he runs in, runs out, and turns his turbo engine to full power. (In English! Because it's cool.) After letting Kid know that he's coming for him, Conan skateboards off to some awesome background music, arriving mere seconds later at Jewelry Yuki. He demands that Kid show himself.
Kid expected nothing less of his Meitantei. Conan (who has yet to learn modesty *sigh*) brags that event though it took a little while to actually get to the location, the riddle was easy to solve once he was there. The main hint was the numbering/lettering system as previously discussed straying from the normal convention. It's ie naki ko, so there is no ie, meaning the only remaining choice was u, Jewelry Yuki. Nice. Good job, Co-chan. (Whenever I call him that, I really want tea. Koucha = "tea".)

Kid congratulates Conan and decides to call it quits for the day as police sirens sound in the background. Besides. He's already gotten what he wanted. Conan conjectures that it was the new Tantei Red Jacket. He asks Kid if he's really stooped so low as to steal stuff like that. Kaito scoffs at this, saying NO. He BOUGHT it. "Bought it? YOU? You BOUGHT it?" Conan can't seem to believe that Kid buys things like a regular person. He also can't believe that Kid, a thief, would be interested in a detective story.
And then, the best line EVER. *Face-palms and shakes head* "So? What's it to you? Can't a thief like a detective?" (Let me hear all of the KaiShin fangirls squeal. You know it's hilarious.) Conan's response: "Eh?" (Beautiful.) And then Kaito takes off while his rival is still standing there in confusion. (I think you broke his brain, Kai-chan. Thieves liking detectives? No. Never.) And the police arrive too late to catch Kid but just in time to deliver their tried and true line of "After him! Get him!" (Classic. Is it just me, or is my commentary getting more and more snarky as the day wears on? Almost done, people.)
Anyway, Conan notices that another envelope has appeared. It's the fourth clue from Ayumi and them. Kid has written on the outside that he has already solved the riddle, and the answer is "Bath house". Conan, however, is over the time limit.
Still, he goes to meet the Shounen Tanteidan and greets them with an ("I'm too cool") "Yo!" Mitsuhiko states that Conan has solved all of the riddles as expected, but (and everyone joins together to rub it in Conan's face that) he has exceeded the time limit! And now he must admit defeat. What was that Conan? You mumbled. We can't hear you. Louder, darling. Finally he says "I lost." at an audible volume, and the Tanteidan celebrate their victory.
They all head into the bath house (which is called Takara Yu or "Treasure Water", so that's the "treasure" that he's been walking all around town looking for). Conan starts complaining about riddles and Hakase, and Haibara chuckles and says, "Actually, I'm the one that came up with that one."

GO HAIBARA! Because only a gosho genius can beat a gosho genius ^_^ I wonder what goes on in Conan's head that makes the idea of a thief buying something LEGALLY so incredible? XD Thanks for all your hard work! This was just perfect! o(^_-)O

In the bath, Mitsuhiko and Genta are talking about how great this is and how awesome it feels. It's nice to go to a public bath every once in a while. (Provided you don't stumble across some kind of nefarious plot and get kidnapped and have to pretend that you have amnesia, right? Right.) Genta says that since Conan lost, he has to wash Genta's back. Conan is not on board with the plan.
Suddenly Kid pops out of nowhere (from underwater). Conan wants to know where the hell Kid came from. Apparently Kid's hiding from the local patrolman who's pretty sharp Conan comments that Kid should lose the hat at least when he's in the bath.
After the bath, Genta and Mitsuhiko talk to Conan about Haibara and why she's been so angry today. Apparently Conan has yet to realize what he's done. He's really bad at reading girls. Mitsuhiko informs him that Haibara is secretly a Sanomiya Kazunari fan. (By the way, I didn't mention it before, but I'm pretty sure this Sanomiya character is supposed to be a parody of Arashi's Ninomiya Kazunari. If so, Conan should be flogged for insulting Nino. Just saying.) And Conan has dared to insult Sanomiya in Haibara's presence, thus invoked Haibara's wrath.
(Apparently, yes, Sanomiya is a parody of Ninomiya-san. Conan says he's a popular idol from the group Fubuki "blizzard" which is kind of like Arashi "storm".) Conan can't believe Haibara is a fan of a boy band idol. (Careful, Co-chan. The fangirls are listening.) Haibara hears him and marches straight over to the guys' side with a very scary look on her face. Meanwhile, Conan loudly carries on laughing and saying that there is absolutely no way. I mean, this is Haibara we're talking about. Come on. Conan is told to look behind him and finds an enraged Haibara who gives him a slap for all of the Sanomiya fans out there. (You go girl! I'm being really mean to my poor Co-chan today, aren't I?)
Kaito, still stalking, informs the meitantei that the mouth brings forth calamity. And then cheerily announces his intent to go home and read the special edition Tantei Red Jacket book.
The End.

Well. That was fun! Wasn't it? I didn't do too badly I think. There were only a handful of parts where I was confused, and in all but one or two places I was able to figure it out. When I heard that I would be translating riddles, I thought, "Oh boy. There's no way I'm gonna be able to do this." But it actually turned out well. I was able to do it for the most part after all. Well, I hope you enjoyed it! Gosh this took a long time. This is why I translate instead of interpret. Oh well. It was fun. ^.^

You're welcome! ^.^ I'm actually really proud. It was a great challenge that really allowed me to see how far I've come. Ten years ago when I started teaching myself Japanese so that I could read MK and DC, I never would have been able to do this. I'm still such a long way from fluent, but I'm getting closer. It's good to see that progress. #^.^#

Just saying... and don't look at me like that! oh, boy, I can really see Kaito taking a bath with his Kid hat on. I bet he could do that in canon just for the laughs, LOL xD
