So there's been some talk in the chat box about dreams that we've had, and since this hasn't been the first time it's happened and has become interesting, Quincy and I thought we could make a thread about it. So, anyone want to share any of their dreams? Doesn't matter whether you just had them last night or years ago. It'd just be fun to hear them I'll start with the earliest dream I remember, when I was around 6 years old: Everyone that was there was in our church sanctuary, but there weren't any chairs there anymore. I had a pile of stuffed animals next to me that was slightly shorter than I was, with a plastic toy dog carrier on the top (that was an actual toy I had). There were others in the room too, but most of all there were dancing skeletons everywhere. They were even jumping up and down the walls, literally. Everyone started panicking and evacuating out of the building because of them, and when we were all safe outside, the church exploded. Cue end of dream. So, what are all yours?

Oh, I've got a lot. But here's one that was particularly strange:
I was in my elementary school, and suddenly, everything started flooding - I'm not sure why, but it was horrible and very scream-worthy for some reason, and the teachers all gathered the students into the cafeteria for safety and stuff. For some reason, we then had to line up by the doors, like we were getting ready to go out - which made no sense, since all the water we were trying to avoid was out there. But anyway. Just as the teachers were about to let us do something (sit down, maybe? or told us to go outside? I dunno), I suddenly stopped and thought, "that's not supposed to happen. It's not supposed to go like this."
and then the dream stopped. and restarted from exactly where I decided it needed to be different. of course, dream me paid no attention and snuck off with a friend and we hid in the ceiling the whole time, sneaking around the pipes and stuff and finding a nice secure little thing to sit in and look through the ceiling at the others in the cafeteria. I have no idea what I did, but something happened and then I woke up.
Has anyone else had a dream stop and rewind on command? because that happened again a while back... can't remember the dream itself, though.

Wow . . . No, I don't think that's ever happened to me . . .
Once I read the "everything started flooding" part, it reminded me of a dream my brother had where he was in a hospital and there was water everywhere, and he had to run away from these zombies and avoid turning into one himself . . .

Aside from the dream I shared in the chatbox, about me being chased by a giant Grimace mascot around the city (I had to take a taxi to run away from it, take a not-elevator to the fourth floor of our high-school building and jump off the said building), I've had dreams inside dreams...
It happened to me more that once, but in almost the same instances I wake up from a dream because of an alarm clock, but when I turned it off the sound won't go off, and then I woke up once again to turn my alarm off for real before getting ready for school... haha xD
Anyone else had those?
Also, just recently, for the first time ever, I dreamed of taste... some sensei told us that as punishment game we had to eat this mixed taste of cinnamon, curry powder and baking soda *cringe* it was so weird, but I dunno why I said "wow, this is delicious" with a happy face in that dream O.o

That sounds like a horrible combination to eat. I have no idea what your dream self was thinking . . . Ohhh, ohhh! I had my first inside dream and knowing-that-your-dreaming dream (forgot the term) at the same time a few months ago! I only remember the inside dream part, but I was in a narrow section of our backyard (it was slightly morphed though, to make the narrow section) with this rabbit-like creature. I think it was talking to me, but I don't remember what it was saying. But it was the most amazing feeling I ever had in a dream when I realized that I was actually dreaming. It only lasted a little while though. As in, a few seconds The rabbit creature started going toward the back door and a followed, but then I went back into the first dream and forgot that I was dreaming. When I woke up was when I realized that it was a dream inside a dream and knew that I was dreaming.

I just had a dream last night XD
I was in my house and for some reason this guy was in it too and I can't remember a lot of it, but I do remember something about helping people out...? and so the guy came over and we were supposed to take care of him or something and he told me he had something stuck in the back of his throat (he had been eating a chicken drumstick and, um, yeah) so I was like okay let's make you throw it up! So I stuck something down his throat and he threw up but the thing never came up so we said, "alright, now we go to the professionals" and we sent him off to a proper hospital. not sure why that didn't happen in the first place but okay.
So for some reason the first level of my house turned into a souvenir shop or something, and there were old rocks and fossils and fish aquariums all around. the very last thing I did before I woke up was go over to a certain place, pick up a fossil that looked like a black helix fossil (from pokemon), turn around, and say very creepily, "All hail lord helix".
then I woke up. XD

Natsumi: that's called a lucid dream, when you're aware that you're dreaming.
My dreams are sort of odd in that I'm rarely in them; I typically more dream about characters I've never seen before in weird plotlines. One time, though, I found a dragon made out of white milky quartz on the mountain above my house, and then my brother sold it to mercenaries and we had to fly away, and ended up in a hilly region where I married a boat by wearing a triangle hat.
...It might be for the best that I rarely dream about myself.

Ah yes, that's the term.
. . . Yes, it probably is for the best . . .
Anyone had a dream where they might have died and/or almost died? I've had both, though in the "almost died" case, it was cuz I woke up right before I could die. The one of those kinds that stands out to me most was when, well, you know how there are railings on the upper floors of malls and how there are corners on the outside of them when there's an opening to see to the floor below? Well in my dream my dad was being adventurously stupid and decided to hang on in one of those corners. Then somehow I switched places with him, and fell. I woke up right before I hit the bottom, of course.

Actually, I have had a dream in which I've died - but it wasn't really detailed, just trip, fall, bam! ghost! And I watched the rest of te dream play out, though I can't remember it.
Speaking of which, it's time for me to sleep. Sweet dreams, everyone!

My question about dreams is more about how people remember them and what they remember. It seems like we all describe dreams as a narrative, a series of events (which makes sense because we're pretty much all writers and it's a verbal medium) but I know for me at least that's not primarily what I remember.
What I typically remember in dreams are images (flying over a mountain pass, looking down from the top of a hill, a library with a fireplace and a staircase, a man in white hunting orange bottles in a green valley), and then what events I do remember are connected to those images. If there are events without an associated image, I'll typically get gaps in the dream, despite knowing that there were events there at one point. (Because of this, I know that I definitely do dream in color.)
How do y'alls remember dreams?

Definitely as a story. I see everything play out like a movie, whether that be thoughts or dreams. But technically dreams are thoughts, so I guess just my thoughts play out like a movie.
My dream where I died is very different from yours, Starlight. But I'll tell you tomorrow since, like you, I've got to go to bed as well.

I remember dreams sequences with my senses (the sounds, the sights, etc.), most of the time, and as a story too, except everything's all blurry and I'm not even conscious of the fact that it's a dream at the first place. I've had dreams where I died too, but it's always like I'm standing on the edge of something, I jump, and my legs move with it and I wake up, LOL xD (EDIT: come to think of it, I did have a dream of me peeking at my own body in a casket O.o) I always dream of strangers, especially kids... a boy in cotton shirt, a girl in a lacy porcelain doll-looking dress, a really playful little boy who jumps around like crazy... and in all instances they're all dressed in white. I always think strangers who appear in dreams are like spirits who somehow found themselves in your subconscious, seeking for someone to talk to, maybe even finding their purpose or something <--yes I believe in spirits As far as I know, those who study dreams still do not know the answer to the "why do we dream?" question, don't they? I do know that dreams happen during the REM stage (Rapid Eye Movement) where the eyes move at rapid speed... as to how we remember dreams, I'm betting it has something to do with the jump from unconsciousness/subconsciousness to consciousness...
Speaking of dreams, the Japanese has this belief about the first dream of the year being really really important to the point that they believe it would determine whether or not they'll have good luck all throughout the year. The luckiest of dreams, they say, is if they see Mt. Fuji in their dreams at the night of the 31st of December or something... So, uh... Happy New Year guys, and let's all see Mt. Fuji in our dreams tonight!~

hr, no dream last night (or maybe I just can't remember one)...
I think it's a bit unlikely for me to dream about mt. fuji - unless I spam watching Countdown to Heaven. And then I'll probably dream of burning towers XD

Neither for me, and I don't think I'll dream of Mt. Fuji tonight either . . . But then again, I'm not Japanese, so . . . Maybe it doesn't count ^-^ As for me, I always dream of people I know, and that includes fictional characters. Somewhat recently Conan has been a big addition Gah, I didn't write down the dream where I died (or at least, I assume that I died). Oh well, I'll just have to tell you what I remember about it. Nearly all of the dream was riding in a minecart on tan mountains, kinda like the badlands but not with those colors. However, near the end of the dream there was a broken rail that the minecart flew off of. I could see the ground rushing up toward me, and when I hit it, I was thrown out of the minecart and rolled along the ground, darkness slowly consuming my vision. Then, when everything turned black - I'm not quite sure how to describe it since I don't remember the details (and I still feel uncomfortable when I think of it) - I saw this figure, almost like the common shape of a ghost except longer and thinner, swaying back and forth in front of me (though it was still facing me) and it had some kind of hood/robe/thing that may or may not have been purple. Regardless, there was only darkness under the hood, and two piercing red eyes. It may or may not have been enticing me to follow it, but I'm not sure. Anyway, soon afterward I woke up, thinking, "I just DIED!"
