Well. For me it depends on whether or not I'm in the mood to read smut and only go looking for that, or if I don't want to read it at all. Haha. And Nice, adds! Haha. Stumbled over it a couple of months ago. And yeah, the depth of the character of Fem!Haku is very interesting. I only read the first story though, not the second. Also. Wish I could write well too!

I've never heard of fem!Haku before. What is the story called? Can you post a link? I looove Haku-chan, and there are so few fics where he's given much depth, so I think I'd be interested in checking this out. It's not too smutty, is it? :/ I'm not a huge fan of smut. I can gloss over the H scenes if there's plot to be had, but if it's pretty much just smut, I'm with Boo.

Mikauzoran it's probably the Reciprocal series by joisbishmyoga, unless I'm highly mistaken – been a while since I read it, but iirc you can just skip past the smut if you want, it's what I usually do...

Yes, that's the one... quite smutty actually Mikau.....I dont' know about you guys, but i think that smutty scene actually kinda contributes character development/interaction between Fem!Haku/Heiji and to the rest of the story? So if you guys aren't prepared for it...

A few days late to the shipping party, but I'm gonna have to disagree with some of the KaiShin commentary. I definitely agree that a lot of it is tropey and cliched and follows the same plotline, but I'd also have to say that I have found so many bad characterizations of Kaito in recent KaiShin attempts- which is what has really gotten me out of shipping it.
There's a fandom-wide phenomenon where Kaito somehow becomes a male Yukiko, in some regards? Like, the fact that he's always non-stop flirting with Shinichi, and the Shin-chan trope is kind of.....weird. He's still a hardcore tsundere to his canonical love interest, Aoko, who he's been familiar with for at least eight years in canon, and yet most KaiShin authors (my past self included, I'm no less guilty of this) seem to bypass this completely and turn Kaito into an incessant playboy. It's like people are obsessed with this 'uke thief/tsundere detective' dynamic between two people who have never met as actual people.
There are some good fics, probably, I just....haven't seen them. Probably because I haven't been looking as hard lately. IIRC, Alaena does some well characterized KaiShin, but she's the only author I can think of right off the top of my head, and that's only because she focuses solely/primarily on that pairing and, like I said, I don't read much (if any) KaiShin anymore.
/rant over
Well....in retrospect, I probably offended somebody with this post.

I sometimes feel like that isn't just a shipping thing but a fanon thing in general when it comes to Kaito. He is moody as heck, really, but I often see him made out to be this super bubbly guy who is always smiles and rainbows and just pranks people non-stop. I dunno, it bothers me. Kaito certainly can be charming, and he does have his poker face, but he himself - no Kid, just Kaito? Honestly, he's a bit of a jerk. And yeah, he pranks people and performs tricks, but it's not like he's a hyperactive chipmunk throwing glitter at everyone.
Ahem. Yeah. I have issues with some versions of fanon Kaito ...

Haha, yip. It's a fact, though, that in fandoms you get certain characterisations of characters that become a weird sort of fanon canon. I haven't been in the DCMK fandom long enough to really know all the ins and outs of that kind of thing, but I have noticed it with Kaito, which is why I'm not surprised at all by Tiny's comment about the 'uke thief/tsundere detective' dynamic.

Hah, I'm guilty of the poker-face one... though I've never written a heist!fic. Probably from the influence of the TV adaptions - I use the poker-face in place of Tatemae. It's more easily understood for English speakers, and then I don't have to explain in the fanfic what a Tatemae is.
I usually write Kaito's relationship with Shinichi/Conan as from rivals to cautious friendship. I don't think he trusts or likes Conan very much. Kaito is less aggressive and violent than Conan, for certain. Mostly he just tries to sneak around in disguises. He threatens Conan a few times, tries to knock him out with gas one time and a taser another time. When that doesn't work out, he trades favors with Conan instead, which are often really imbalanced in Conan's favor. And, let's not forget how often and badly Conan has injured KID. He's been almost blown up twice, knocked out of a second story window, beaten up, and probably got hypothermia swimming away from the cruise ship. From his perspective, Conan is an intelligent, psychotic little kid who won't think twice about putting Kaito's life in mortal danger. That's not exactly sexy, for me at least. Definitely not a foundation for a healthy relationship of any type.
That's probably a main reason for a lot of the OOCness in KaiShin stories, come to think of it. The characters and their relationship in the canon just aren't sexy or fun to fantasize about.

Are you kidding? If people killed you over criticizing ships in this fandom, I'd have been dead a long time ago.
