Fem!shin

This is probably not going to be a popular topic for many people, but I thought I'll just post something to get any two cents from anyone who is interested in replying.
I want to get opinions on what generally people would think about or expect from a fem!shin fic, considering all the cultural context and expectations that would affect a fem!shin's characterisation as oppose to canon Shinichi.
Like how different/similar they are. How similarly or differently people would react to them, how differently they would react to other ppl...etc
I got intricated by the idea after reading a few fem!shin fic. But at the same time, I got a little bit annoyed by how OOC fem!shin get in a few other fics. I mean I get it that there are some leeway to be given with the difference in gender, but with the way it was written, they might as well got an OC to fill up the role. And the fem!shin's OOCness affected the other characters OOCness too. *rant finish*
I have read some great fem!shin fic, so I know there's potential in that storyline/plot. I like to think that there are no such things as bad ideas/plots, it just how well you write it and how well you could see it to people.
Yes, I am writing a fic about it...just so as to satisfy my, curiosity, in the subject. I am interested to know whether my train of thought is too far out or would it be somewhat in line with expectations. Because if my thinking/plot bunny is rubbish, I'd need to start over or turn my attention to my other fics.
P.s. I have quite a few plot bunnies and they aren't going to be all fem!shin. But this fic is the only one that's writing itself at the moment. And the rest are just...slower to come by, even though I am more excited aboutt my other plot bunnies than this fem!shin fic.

I've never thought about it, to be honest. I prefer to write guys, so making Shinichi female is something I wouldn't do unless it was a random gender-bender one-shot.
That said, if I was to consider this seriously, I would expect fem!Shin to retain all of Shinichi's sarcasm, arrogance, bluntness, Sherlock Holmes nerdiness and obsession with solving cases. Just because the gender has been swapped doesn't mean the basic character traits will also shift. Shinichi's upbringing is weird as it is, so he's never going to be a stereotypical Japanese girl if changed to a female. Look at his mother, look at his father. Maybe Yukiko would try to over-girlify fem!Shin, but I can see female Shinichi being rather stubborn about that sort of thing and would probably not be the type to be all 'omg, makeup and pretty things!' Yukiko would probably have to force 'her' into dressing up.
I think "she" would still be friends with Ran, and reluctantly Sonoko. I think she would have a hilarious rivalry with Heiji, and it would make for an interesting rivalry with Kaito, but nothing would majorly change in terms of Shinichi's character or his/her interaction with others unless the author added in 'new' emotions such as a crush on someone other than Ran.
Just my two cents.

As far as a female Shinichi goes for me, I can't say I'm a huge fan. I think part of the reason is that most of the fics I've read have made her so OOC and Shinichi doesn't stay true to his/her original character. I'd expect a female Shinichi to still love soccer and Sherlock Holmes, to care very little about appearances aside from looking neat, and putting a heavier emphasis on knowledge and truth than friendship, the way he seems to in the series (his only real friend from his pre-shrunken days being Ran). Too many times I've seen Shinichi become, perhaps unintentionally, girly enough that it just turns me off of reading a fic. That's just my opinion.

I've never read Fem!Shin. I see it in summaries and just think "Nope", and keep scrolling.
I'm curious about the idea now, though. Not in the sense that Shinichi has always been a girl, but I'm warming (translation: giggling evilly) at the idea of Shinichi being turned into a female because of the drug instead of a kid.

I think I might have seen one or two like that, but they seem to involve a lot of hysterical screaming and "HAIBARA WHAT THE F*** DID YOU DO TO ME?!?" Again, I tend to lose interest quickly in those because there's no real substance in the story aside from his gender switch. Maybe I should challenge myself to write one...

Shinichi knows creepily enough about women clothing and make-up as it is.
And that would have be a funny idea indeed. Ive read one or two about that, however they are just dreadful and poorly executed that I drop it at the start. Id love to read a good one though, only if it was for Yukiko go overboard on the shopping bit to Shinichi's utter horror.

Most ideas like that can be brilliant if executed well but, alas, are usually not. It's like body switching. If you just focus on shallow things, the story will remain shallow. Doesn't have to be that way just because the idea is on the cracky side.
Anyway, I'm awfully tempted to write this now. Must resist. Too many writing projects.
(you will make me very happy if you write it, Taliya)

Which scenario? Shinichi was always a female, or Shinichi was turned into a female?

Either, I suppose. I'd be inclined to go with Shinichi turned into a female, because I feel like that has more interesting issues to explore.

And it just occurred to me that, technically speaking, Shinichi turned into a female Shinichi could still pretend to be male Shinichi. Which would make for some super hilarious discoveries later.
Omg. No. Down, plot bunny. You will not get the best of me.

*cackles madly* I think at that point it would be a challenge to write it in a non-cracky way...

But that's what I love about cracky ideas: you have these moments of utter absurdity, but if you keep the balance right and the characters in character, you can actually get a good story out of it.
