I don't know, I was watching episodes 578-581 (the Thirteen Red Shirts case with Jodie-sensei, Subaru-san, and Scar Akai), and this was one of the ideas that made me pause the video cuz I just had to write it down. Or rather, draw it down. The basic idea of it anyway. I cleaned it up a bit and added a little more to it today. So yeah, the part of the episode that made me want to draw this wasn't really any part in the episode itself, but the opening song/video As the Dew (I think. It might've been Hello Mr. My Yesterday, but I'm pretty sure it was As the Dew when Conan was flinging his glasses off). Anyway . . . Here is the unfinished drawing (sorry for the dim light): I'll finish it at some point . . . I still need to finish the pony pics though . . .

Poor Conan The feels in that one picture already! For some reason I really like the ray of light shining from the door. Talk about random...

Thanks! Actually, the ray of light is supposed to emphasize how Conan is in the shadows. I really had a hard time/am still having a hard time trying to figure out if I did the ray of light right or if it still needs to be adjusted a little.

Such a deep meaning The light looks pretty spot on and where it should be or where you would expect light from a doorway to be. I also like how the glasses are tossed to the side slightly but still carefully and neatly. As symbolic as taking his glasses off to cry is, it is also practical. Leaving your glasses on in that position hurts

Thanks! I'm glad to know it works ^-^ Yeah, the glasses were another thing I wasn't quite sure about. I knew for sure they'd be off to the side, but I didn't know in what position to put them in and where. I originally wanted them next to him, but then they were going to get in the way of the light. I eventually settled for a bit in front of him (but I'm still wondering if they're a little bit too close. I feel like they're SLIGHTLY too close to his sock). And man, the position of his hands were hard . . . Though you can barely see that in the picture I took.

Nataumi, it's beautiful!!! Seriously, BEAUTIFUL! It really gets you in the feels.
I think the ray of light is really good in terms of the way it gradually gets bigger. I think it might need to be angled more to our left slightly, though, since the door is open a crack, instead of coming sort of straight like it is now. I don't know. Maybe turn your hall light on and turn your bedroom light off, open the door a crack and see.
As for the glasses, I think the placement depends on what feeling you're trying to convey/what mood Conan is in. Is he just tired and taking a moment to rest and feel down? Then I might have the glasses dangling from his fingertips. If he's feeling lost and trying to keep it together, he might be gripping the glasses in the left hand.
And then there's my personal favorite interpretation: Conan is sad and frustrated and on the verge of giving up. He's sad and angry at his situation. In a fit of anger and frustration, he throws the glasses (symbolic of the façade of "Conan") away. They land upside down at an angle over by the wall. \o-o\ Kind of like that.
But, again, excellent job! This is a really powerful piece.

Thanks, Mikau!
Yeah, that's what I was wondering. But I didn't want the light to run into Conan. And you know, both times I was going to try it out, the hallway light was off, and since there are other bedrooms connected to the hall, I didn't want to turn it on for fear of waking someone up.
. . . That . . . That last one, almost exactly! I was even thinking of him throwing the glasses, but I had no idea how/where they'd land. I think the idea of him throwing the glasses was why I felt like they were too close to him in the drawing, actually.

As someone who has been really annoyed and thrown my own glasses before, no matter how angry you are you tend to through them sort of gently as you need them (no matter how much you wish you don't) and don't truly wish to brake them. Conan relies on his glasses too much to actually purposefully throw them like that, so far away and a bit askew but nothing to rough. Maybe near the wall but not too close so it doesn't look they hit it and bounced off. If you know what I mean ^_^;

True that Conan relies on the glasses, but he doesn't need them to see, and there are spare pairs. They're not essential to him like they would be to someone who actually can't see without the glasses. I doubt he'd half-heartedly toss them. There'd be no point in throwing them unless he, you know, actually THREW them. I think they did hit the wall and bounce back. I think at this point he bares no affection towards those glasses. He's frustrated, absolutely fed up with "Conan" and what he's doing to Ran. He wants to break free of his prison and get his life back. I don't think he's concerned about breaking them when he throws them. They're not precious to him at this point; they're a symbol of his "captivity" and weakness as Conan. They're symbolic of all the lies, everything that's keeping him and Ran apart.
I'm getting too worked up about my convictions about this scene aren't I? ^.^; Still, I feel like him just setting down the glasses or half-heartedly tossing them does not accurately depict Conan's mental state. (Sorry, it's the actress in me, getting into the character's head.) Well, I've got two thoughts. Let me fic and get back to you.

Speaking of fic-ing, I already made a short fic last night off of this cuz of the discussion about his mental state.
You think one side of his glasses closed and other opened will help show his dislike for what they represent?

Like folding on of the sides? I just threw my glasses onto my bed and they did land like that. (I used an old pair so if they broke it wouldn't matter) who would have thought I think having one side closed would definitely add to it, especially if it is near the wall like Mikau said.

Oh, you wrote a fic too? Haha. Oh well. I'd like to read it! What's it called? Did you post it on ff yet? Here's mine: www.fanfiction.net/s/11049479/1/Breaking-PointIt seriously started off as a small blurb to explain how I thought the glasses should be placed and why, but...two thousand words later, I had a full-blown fic on my hands. Co-chan got all introspective and...yeah. It's probably a lot different than what you were thinking when you originally drew the pic. Isn't it so cool how two people can look at the same scene and come up with all sorts of interpretations? That's really what I wanted to do when I was talking about picture prompts the other day. This is actually a really good pic to do it with since it's very simple but powerful. There's a lot of emotion contained in your drawing, and I just love it! It would be cool to see what kind of fics everyone came up with. Again, superb job, Natsumi! Thanks for always inspiring me. Though, Kaito, my long-time muse kind of wants to have a word with you. You're stealing his job. ^.^ Hahaha! I can't wait to see the finished version whenever you get around to it, though. I can't gush enough about this picture! The feels! The emotion! Keep up the awesome work, my friend! You rock!

Actually I wasn't planning on posting it on fanfiction, though I was thinking I might post it here. It's only a short 400 words composed of Conan's thoughts, but I think I'll post it in this section anyway.
I know right? I think we should start the picture prompts soon . . .
Thanks Mikau! And sorry, Kaito. Can you think of me as a coworker instead of someone stealing your job? Un! Have to finish ponies first, though! I got Ran and Kazuha down (but not inked yet) and Sera (but not colored yet), but then I saw another pony pose and was like "Yes! I have to draw this as well!" So now I have a bonus pony pic to draw as well ^^;

*Nods enthusiastically* I'd love to see it. I wonder how different it is from mine. *Does wiggle dance of excited curiosity* Post it! Post it! ^o^
Yeah...I wonder how we should go about doing picture prompts. I guess maybe we should do it by linking to pictures like in the found fanart section? The only thing I'm concerned about is artists not wanting us to use their work. :/ Which, I don't know, may or may not be the case. If I were a better artist and someone wrote a fic inspired by my artwork, I would be super honored and really happy about it, but you never know with people, so... Well, maybe we'll post some links and see if anyone complains and then deal with it then. What's that phrase? "It's easier to apologize than to ask permission"?
Anyway, thank YOU for the inspiration. Kaito's off pouting in the corner, but I think he'll come around if he gets to be the senior employee and you the junior. You know Kaito. He's like that.
Yeah, I figured you'd be working on finishing ponies first. Who's bonus pony going to be?
