I haven't had one til now either When I'm done, tell me what yours is. I wonder if they'd be completely different . . . ? Anyway, here's mine: During the time in between Kaitou Corbeau flying away and being back in the building, Corbeau disguised himself as Harry Nezu. When he placed the fake in, it was made of ice with the little coin thing inside (the water it was frozen in could have been colored black or very dark purple). Hakuba said there weren't any secret compartments or anything in the pedestal, but maybe Coreau was somehow able to install a heating element inside while the pedestal was being made (the heating thing reacted to the amount of pressure on the pedestal, so just placing your hand on it wouldn't activate it while sitting on it would), which then melted the ice into the fabric while everyone was distracted by the feathers. Thus the coin was left there. Nezu was the one who picked it up, and the fabric was black, so no one would notice that it was wet if Nezu didn't say anything, and he wouldn't if he was actually Corbeau disguised. The black paint coming off the coin was because it got wet. One of the holes in this theory has to do with Nakamori-keibu, though. Why was their a mark on him as well and why was it in the shape of a handcuff?

Nice theory! I'm not even going to try with the tricks, Gosho always manages to blow my mind!
We are avoiding RAW spoilers I assume? Currently I was rather pleased to find that Corbeau was a "fellow pupil" as opposed to something a bit more... cliche. This is enlightening antagonist dynamic! So far, so pleased. Thoughts?

Thanks! Yeah, I'd rather avoid raw spoilers, especially since I usually like to wait until the English translation is out. I like this as well I wonder if Kaitou Corbeau will become a recurring character or if he's just a one-time thing like Nightmare and Chat Noir. I actually hope he'll be a recurring character, but if he's going to disappear from the world of thieving . . . well, I suppose as long as we know his identity it doesn't matter whether or not he steals things, because that wouldn't be the only time we'd see him.

I wonder if it has something to do with conduction. Nakamori's hand didn't effect the pedestal but his butt with the metal handcuffs caused it to start heating up. I think that later when he was told to hold into the pedestal with both hands completing the circuit. The pedestal already has those spinning blades in which can become heated through the produced kinetic energy.

I was also thinking about induction. My grandma bought a new stove/cooktop and she showed that she could be boiling water one second and hold her hand on top of it the next without getting burnt. I also thought about pressure at first, but the diamond couldn't weigh that much more than the pressing of a hand (or could it? Eehh) The mark on Nakamori's butt is a burn mark, it came from his handcuffs which became hot from the induction.
I didn't think about water! Of course the diamond could've been made of ice!! So clever!
Corebeau said that he was going to 'steal it without touching it', which means that he wasn't Nozu in disguise when he touched the jewel (unless he lied), but then Nozu must then be working together with Corbeau, just because he should've noticed that the diamond was fake. A diamond made of ice would've melted if he touched it without his gloves, and if it was ice and colouring he /must/ have gloves to not show how the trick works.
Also Jii, doesn't remember any "younger" apprentice, but just because you're a senior doesn't mean you're older. I have a 30-something guy in my class, and one year ahead of me there is a three year younger person. So the disciple was older, but not a senior? ô.ó maybe...

Nice theory. I have another detail to add. If we admit the diamond was made of ice, the low temperature of the room can be seen as a way to stop it from melting. I thought right away that the idea had been stupid, since people clearly have ways of keeping themselves warm. However, if you consider the ice diamond, it does make sense.

Agreed, the same trap to catch a thief usually only works once. It is highly likely that the second time was for another purpose: keeping the gem solid.

Oh, I completely forgot about conduction. Of course, that makes so much sense! Hm, Nezu working together with Kaitou Corbeau makes sense as well. Actually, I think that came up once in my mind but I didn't feel like justifying it at the time. Well, we'll what it is when the third chapter finally gets translated.
Oh, and Nechangi, I was talking about the weight of the container the diamond was held in, not the weight of the diamond itself.

Oh! I see! Of course! That makes more sense!
The cold room/ice-diamond theory is interesting

Oh, I forgot to say something before this whole theory thing started. Did you guys notice how Kaito called the jewel his "revenge"? What's that all about? Or am I just missing something?

Yeah, probably unlikely . . . But if he actually was a fellow disciple with Toichi, that makes me wonder about Toichi's mentor. Was their mentor a phantom thief/trained them to be a phantom thief? Because apparently both ended up becoming phantom thieves . . . Ano... Isn't Toichi's mentor Jody Hopper's grandfather? He's even shown in the pictures when the Red Tear was lit under the fire... Also, am I the only one who thinks Hakuba's a bit OOC in this panel?

But technically, shouldn't it be that that is what Hakuba is like (since it's in the manga) and who we think of as Hakuba is OOC?
I agree, Hakuba doesn't seem like the Hakuba I remember

I do remember manga Hakuba to be overly obsessed with Kid to the point of making evil faces Anyways, this Kaitou Corbeau character's really making me curious, but I, too, refuse to think it's Toichi...
