Does anyone listen to any podcasts around here?
I got into them a few years ago as something to listen to during my commutes to work when a radio show I enjoyed ended and one of the hosts went on to host a podcast with a friend of his for a couple years. I even got to participate on their live call-in quiz show, which was neat.
Some of the ones I enjoy:
The Thrilling Adventure Hour
The New-Time Podcast in the style of Old-Time Radio.
I did a huge post on this one so I'll just direct you there rather than go into excessive detail here.
Writing Excuses
Fifteen minutes long because you're in a hurry and we're not that smart.
One that might be beneficial to any and all of us here. Authors Brandon Sanderson, Dan Wells, Mary Robinette Kowal, and webcomic artist Howard Tayler team up to discuss the various aspects of writing stories and sometimes getting into the writing business. Listening to these episodes almost always ends up putting me into a writing mood.
Welcome to Night Vale
"A friendly desert community where the Sun is hot, the Moon is beautiful, and mysterious lights pass overhead while we all pretend to sleep. Welcome to Night Vale."
Hosted by Cecil Baldwin, Welcome to Night Vale features public community radio host Cecil Palmer giving us the latest news of the town of Night Vale, where the everyday life of the citizens is frequently interrupted by the forces of the supernatural and unknowable. Basically take the town in the middle of the nowhere where all the weird stuff happens, then imagine what its news radio must sound like.
I actually got to see them perform live on stage summer before last.
Spontaneanation
Paul F Tompkins hosts this comedy show where he opens with an improvised monologue, has a free-form chat with a special guess and then, based on a location provided by said guest, performs a narrative improv with a group of fellow improvisers.
These next few can get blue so may not be fully appropriate for younger listeners.
How Did This Get Made?
Making sense of the movies that don't make sense.
Hosts Paul Scheer, Jason Mantzoukas, and June Diane Raphael and a special guest spend an hour plus talking about the worst, strangest, and just plain bonkers movies you'll have ever heard of. Among their recent episodes are Streets of Fire, Kazaam, and the Star Wars Holiday Special. Earlier episodes include The Room, Street Fighter, and Hercules in New York.
Who Back When
A podcast to which I am regular contributor. Host Ponken and his friends jD, Nikulele, DrewBackWhen, and Flapjack review the stories of Doctor Who. Originally starting with the classic episodes of First Doctor William Hartnell, they've expanded to episodes of the new series and even audio books with Paul McGann's Eighth Doctor. As of this post they're about one third of the way through the Second Doctor in Classic Who, just did the first Martha Jones episode for New Who, and recently recorded an audio Who episode they'd been putting off for months.
Cox n' Crendor Show
YouTube Let's Players Jesse Cox and Wowcrendor talk about just about anything they can think of for about 30-45 minutes.
Any podcasts folks here enjoy and want to plug?
