Ok, I am SO doing this one. I've been watching Once Upon a Time recently and I've had ideas for DC/MK stories that I so want to write and now I have the prefect excuse! //rubs hands together excitedly//

So as far as what everyone else is doing for this, are people actually using supernatural/magical elements for the stories, or just following the structure of a fairy tale? I was thinking of using the Little Mermaid and doing something Ran-centric, since there aren't enough stories about her and it seems like every interpretation of Little Mermaid I've read in the fandom has revolved around Kaito.

spoiler alert, mine's technically not a fairy tale. I am very loosely basing this off "once upon a time" as a prompt, not so much fairies. >.< children's stories... kinda.
basically what you need to know is mine's not revolving around any structure or magic of a fairy tale. except luck, but that doesn't count.

Well, today I was thinking about how DCMK pairings are so... :/ Well, you know. We all know that in the end Ran and Shinichi and Kaito and Aoko are going to end up together and be all happily ever after without Sensei actually resolving any of the issues these relationships would have if they occurred in real life. So I was thinking that maybe I want to do something involving Kaito and Ran where "once upon a time" and "happily ever after" don't pan out.
I'm kind of drawing more on "Magic", I think. Should be interesting I've wanted to write something like this for a while, so... Let's just hope I have time to do so. I haven't had time/inclination to write very much lately. -.-;

I kind of couldn't decide whether I should self-destruct or forfeit the challenge.
Then I realised that the question was rather ridiculous.
So, as of now, I had given up, and I may get back to it later.
It may be a bit of a pity, seeing as while not a fan of writing, I adore fairy-tales - and my beginning was fun, from that partial, author's perspective.
But I felt that it is like strategic games! You will be most dignified in your case if you admit your defeat as soon as you see you have cut off your ways to win. .. Here, I'm trying to colour my postponing to undefined days as an honourable choice (ha - ha).
In any case, I cannot wait for the results of this problem. Oh dear. - Completely anxious for the 21th that I'd dread so much!

[runs into the thread, flailing arms] Whoops I am SO late to the party, but I might be able to finish this one in time!
And in other news, every contest plot bunny I've had for the past how long has been HakuKai I think I need to be stopped.

No, no, Tiny. Keep going. Keep going. HakuKai needs all the love it can get. ^.~
And I just started writing my entry this morning, so... It should be fine, though.

Damn, I'm not going to have anything to submit. My fic is nowhere near finished. Life got in the way and I've been super busy. Whaa! I really wanted to do this one too! Somehow I got my dates mixed up and thought that the Triplicate one was due first. Oh well. I might as well get started on that one when I have the time this week. Damn it, I really wanted to do the fairy tale one. I'll still work on my piece, maybe even expand on it now that I don't have to worry about keeping it under 5k words but still... super bummed.

Yeah, it's pretty obvious that this contest isn't happening either. I'm going to keep working on my piece as well, but I won't have it done in the next two hours. I'm working on revamping the contests at the moment to better suit the community's need. I'd love to keep doing as many contests as possible in order to keep the ideas flowing and inspiring our members, but it seems like everyone is really busy at the moment, so doing shorter competitions seems like it will better serve us.
Keep an eye out for our super short contest coming out next Sunday the twenty-eighth!
