Prompt: Write a story in which the reader cannot see inside the mind of any of the characters. Express the thoughts and feelings of the characters only through dialogue, action, and physical description.
I finally decided to post what I wrote for Prompt #6. It's a bit short and ends a little abruptly, but I don't want or have time to finish it right now (it would probably sit in Google Drive for a few more months if I waited).
"The street the Mouris lived on was just like any other street in Beika. Sure, it had a few distinctive shops, but nothing too out of the ordinary ever happened there. That all changed with the arrival of Edogawa Conan.
It was a rather abrupt change, too. One day, the detective agency had been barely scraping by. The next morning, Kogoro was mobbed by reporters asking about the little girl he had helped rescue. Things picked up after that.
The agency was getting a lot more business, and reporters mobbed it at least once a month. Even the police became accustomed to bringing cases for the ‘great detective’ to look over.
Neighbors got used to dodging deadly skateboards flying down the sidewalk. Most have become used to seeing the little boy's group of friends investigating things, and a few even know them by name. Some have said they have seen the Kaito Kid a few times.
Years pass and seasons change. The street becomes used to the increased activity.
The boy, now a few years older, goes out on his skateboard again. He doesn't come back this time."
While I wasn't unhappy with how this turned out, it did make me sad. I wasn't initially intending to imply that Conan might have died. Oh well xD.
