I believe I have just found the best thing: a Conan spin-off manga starring The Hannin! It's called Hannin no Hanzawa-san (犯人の犯沢さん).
I bought volumes one and two at Kinokuniya while I was in New York, and I'm so excited to start reading! Just flipping through, I see Conan, Sonoko, Ran, Heiji, Megure-keibu, and even Hakuba and the gang from the Gathering of the Detectives chapters/episodes all featured!
I'll let you guys know how good it is once I start actually reading it, but it looks really funny. The black, featureless person used to portray the culprit in the show without giving away said culprit's identity (AKA: "The Hannin") has always amused me, and I've grown rather fond of the character, so it's so exciting to see him in his own manga.

So, I finished reading the first two volumes, and the manga was really great. It starts off with Hanzawa getting off the train at Beika Station, and the people on the train call out to him, "What are you doing?! This is Beika! Get back in! Do you want to die?!" In this manga, the characters are highly aware of the higher-than-average crime rate in Beika, and it's quite funny. One of my favorite lines is when Agasa-hakase composes a haiku missing a traditional seasonal word required to fit the standard haiku regulations and insists that "explosion" is a seasonal word for spring in Beika.
Volume two features Hanzawa working at a video rental shop with Hakuba and the other detectives from the Gathering of the Detectives arc. They frequently ditch him when cases come up, and Hanzawa ends up spending a lot of time minding the shop with Watson, the falcon. Also featured is a trip to Tropical Land. You can guess how that ends up.
Anyway, it's a super fun manga, and it's neat to see the regular cast featured as recurring supporting characters or even in the background and mob shots. I've spotted Yukiko at least twice in different disguises, Gin and Vodka are in the background a couple times, I believe I saw Aoko in the background in a crosswalk crossing scene (as of yet, no Kaito), and there are even minor characters from the original show that were only featured in one or two episodes (like that guy that tried to kill his wife, not knowing she was pregnant <featured with their baby>; that woman <the ex-wife of the pervert> in the Night Baron murder mystery; and the soccer star, his kid brother, and his girlfriend <names are failing me right now>), so it's fun to spot them in the background.
You should check it out if you have the chance. I'm sure someone is translating it, if you don't read Japanese.

No idea if there's going to be a consistent effort to release Hanzawa-san, but the first chapter is translated into English on Tumblr! Part OnePart TwoI've enjoyed what little we have available; it looks really promising. I like how Ran's "horn" is exaggerated. It's pretty awesome that there seems to be an actual plot; when I first heard of this, I thought it was just going to be nothing more than a gag manga (although I still would've enjoyed it even without the overarching storyline). Unto the subject of another spinoff, though, has anyone else here have read Zero's Tea Time? Do you enjoy it, or have you been turned off by the copious amounts of fanservice and/or lack of plot? Even though Rei's my favorite character, his spinoff is, admittedly, a hit and miss for me, as I care more for some aspects of his life more than others, but I've warmed up to it to the point where I've learned to laugh at the fanservice, because I'm weird and I've recently realized--like, literally while the reading the latest chapter--that I find compelling characters doing mundane things utterly hilarious. *sweatdrops* I'm mostly here for Furuya's interactions with Kazami and his work in the NPA, and the rare glimpses into his real, inner thoughts. That, and I'm hoping to find some fic inspiration, of course.

I haven't read Zero's Tea Time yet, but I'm certainly planning on it. Maybe I'll do that tomorrow. I really enjoy Amu-chan, so I'm looking forward to it. I've kind of been waiting until I can either get a hold of it in Japanese or until there are more chapters out.

Haven't been active for a while, but I found something today I thought folks might like: Detective Conan Police Academy Spinoff Manga Gets TV Anime www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2021-08-03/detective-conan-police-academy-spinoff-manga-gets-tv-anime/.175858 This year's combined 36th and 37th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine announced on Wednesday that Takahiro Arai's Meitantei Conan Keisatsu Gakkō Hen Wild Police Story (Detective Conan: Police Academy Arc Wild Police Story) spinoff manga series of Gosho Aoyama's Detective Conan manga is getting a television anime adaptation.
The magazine also revealed that the Detective Conan manga is going on a hiatus, and it will return in the magazine's 46th issue in October. Shogakukan will publish the manga's 100th volume on October 18.
The spinoff manga's first arc, the Matsuda arc (Jinpei Matsuda is a character in the Police Academy), debuted in October 2019. The arc had three chapters. The second arc, focusing on Wataru Date, debuted in February 2020. The spinoff ended in November 2020.
Shogakukan published the manga's second and final compiled book volume in December 2020.
Arai launched the ongoing Meitantei Conan Zero no Tea Time manga in Weekly Shonen Sunday in May 2018. The manga began serializing chapters only when the main Detective Conan manga took hiatuses (Aoyama has frequently put the manga on hiatus for research since July 2018).
