Prompt: What is something the Detective Boys could do that Conan and/or Haibara would utterly fail at?
(So... I apologise if this is not quite up to the mark. I struggled a bit with this one, and you might be able to notice that in the story, but tried my best with the prompt, so I hope it makes sense.)

Summary: There were some mysteries that even Shinichi couldn't solve.
Getting what you want
Shinichi was not sure how exactly he had ended up at a mystery novel convention in Osaka, except for a vague memory of being dragged out of the house early in the morning by the detective boys, but he wasn’t complaining. Much. Well, at least not until he heard Hattori’s voice.
“Well, if it isn’t Ku-Ku-Conan-kun!” Came the exclamation from behind Shinichi as he was looking at the Ellery Queen stall. Then Hattori caught sight of the rest of the detective boys. “Oh, I see the whole gang is here!”
“Hattori, you are the worst. Go look at some other stall.” Shinichi said flatly.
“Conan-kun! You shouldn’t be so rude!” chided Ayumi.
Shinichi sighed wondered vaguely how Haibara had managed to slip away by herself to go look at whatever she wanted without the detective boys noticing. He imagined that she was probably sitting by herself reading a book she might have bought from one of the stalls.
Hattori violently ruffled Shinichi’s hair. “Yeah, you shouldn’t be so rude, Conan-kun.” He mocked.
Shinichi scowled.
He waited with forced patience as the detective boys took their time with the stall while Hattori chattered noisily about cases he had come across recently.
When they finally started took for another interesting stall, one in particular caught Shinichi’s eye. Sherlock Holmes. He glanced over at the detective boys, considering the best candidate for indoctrination. For someone to truly appreciate Holmes, they would have to have a certain level of intellect, he thought. So, he grabbed Mitsuhiko by the wrist and dragged him towards the stall.
Mitsuhiko yelped in surprise.
“Where are you taking me?”
Shinichi smirked “I’m about to change your life.”
The detective boys and Hattori stared after them, and Shinichi thought that they were probably contemplating whether or not they should follow. He didn’t bother looking back.
When they reached the stall, they were greeted by a clerk wearing a printed t-shirt, jeans and a deerstalker. Shinichi tried not to frown.
“Excuse me,” he said, glancing around the stall, “how much is that complete set of Sherlock Holmes for?”
“Two thousand five hundred yen.” The clerk answered.
“Conan-kun, that’s way too expensive.” Mitsuhiko pointed out.
Shinichi looked around the stall. In one corner was a bowl of folded slips. Next to it was a sign that said “Solve a riddle and win a Sherlock Holmes boxed set!”
The clerk followed his gaze. “Ah, you won’t be able to do that. They’re too difficult for little kids like you.” he said.
Shinichi suppressed the urge to glare at him. Then he walked over to the bowl of slips.
“Hey, you can’t do that kid, you’ll just end up wasting one of my slips.”
Shinichi did not know what the logic behind that statement was, but he did know that he was getting a little annoyed by the clerk.
“Conan-kun, maybe we should go to another stall.” suggested Mitsuhiko, and it was obvious that he hadn’t liked the clerk either, but Shinichi was a man on a mission. He was going to get Mitsuhiko that boxed set.
“Conan-kun, I’m sure they have the whole series in the school library. You can read it there”
“You mean they have the abridged versions Mitsuhiko.” Shinichi corrected
Shinichi reached out to get a paper from the bowl.
“Listen, boy, you can’t just take a slip of paper. I need those slips to last all day for the customers.”
“Aren’t we just as much customers as anybody else is?” Shinichi demanded innocently.
“Look, kid, I ain’t go the time for this—”
“Um, please can we just try one slip? We promise we won’t give you any more trouble after that.” Mistuhiko cut in.
The clerk turned around to face him.
Mitsuhiko turned red.
“What I mean is, we won’t ask you for another slip if you let us try just one. I mean, we weren’t going to ask you, but…” He stammered.
The man’s face softened.
“Okay, I’ll let you try one.”
Shinichi fished a slip out of the bowl. The clerk reluctantly handed him a pen.
“Write you answer at the bottom of the slip. You have only five minutes to solve it.” instructed the clerk. Shinichi was already scribbling down the answer.
Heh, as if I’d take more than thirty seconds to solve something so easy.
He handed the slip back to the clerk with a triumphant grin. The clerk’s eyes widened.
“This was supposed to be one of the harder ones. How in the world did you solve it?”
“It was easy. It’s not even an actual riddle, it just has to do with the mathematical possibilities.”
Shinichi walked to away from the stall with the bag in hand, and Mitsuhiko followed.
“Are you really going to read all of those?” Mitsuhiko asked.
“Me? I’ve already read them. I got these for you. Hey, I wanted to ask, how did you get the clerk to let me take a slip?”
Mitsuhiko stared, yes wide.
“Conan-kun, you can’t be serious. You didn’t really get those for me, did you?”
“Of course I did. More people need to read these books. Also, you didn’t answer my question.”
“Eh? I didn’t do anything. I just asked.”
They wandered around, and found the rest of the detective boys at a refreshment stall, eating brownies with iced tea. Surprisingly enough Haibara was there. Shinichi guessed she had probably joined them right after he had left with Mitsuhiko.
Sans Hattori. Good.
“Sorry for going ahead, Edogawa-kun, Kojima-kun got hungry” Haibara informed coolly.
“Seconds!” Demanded Genta, on cue.
“Genta-kun, you con’t have seconds, you’ll end up using the money for the train back.” Ayumi warned.
Genta looked visibly crestfallen.
“But the brownies were so good, and I’m still so hungry…”
The lady at the counter smiled.
“I’ll let you have just one more, for free.” she said.
Shinichi noticed something in Haibara’s expression change.
“Then, can I have a small iced tea, too?” she asked the lady.
“Absolutely not. I can’t go around giving people stuff for free.”
Shinichi frowned.
“But you gave Genta a free brownie. Why can’t Haibara have an iced tea.” He complained, trying to sound as much like an indignant seven-year-old as he could.
The lady gave him a warning glare. “No way. Little children who try to ask for things they don’t need won’t get any.” she said firmly.
On their way back to the train station, Haibara pulled Shinichi away from eh detective boys.
“What was that about? I was just trying to see if I could get myself a glass of iced tea without spending money, but you went full-on crybaby.” she said, smirking.
“Oh, I just wanted to see if she would give it to you if I supported the request. It worked at the Sherlock Holmes stall when Mitsuhiko asked for the slip with the riddle after I did.”
“The slip with the riddle? Never mind, I don’t need to know. Probably something to do with your Sherlock Holmes obsession. So, I guess it didn’t work, did it? The lady didn’t give me an iced tea.”
They caught up with the rest of the detective boys and bought themselves tickets. Once they were on the train, Shinichi whispered to Haibara, “I still don’t get it, why is it that you and I didn’t get what we tried to ask for, but Genta and Mitsuhiko did?”
“Edogawa-kun, are you really that curious about this?”
“I mean, I reasoned with them and everything. All Genta and Mitsuhiko did was ask, or complain.”
“It’s because they’re kids, Edogawa-kun.”
“Very funny, Haibara. As if you and I don’t look like kids.”
“Edogawa-kun?”
“Yeah?”
“You’re bothering me. Shut up for a bit, will you?”
And with that, Haibara moved over to the seat opposite hers, next to Ayumi.
Shinichi sighed. He looked over at Genta and Mitsuhiko.
Genta, unsurprisingly, was sleeping, while Mitsuhiko was trying to read A Study in Scarlet, his eyebrows drawn together in concentration.
Shinichi smiled to himself. Well, at least he’d got someone into his favorite book series.
(So... I apologise if this is not quite up to the mark. I struggled a bit with this one, and you might be able to notice that in the story, but tried my best with the prompt, so I hope it makes sense.)
