Greetings from the wonderful land of Oz (as in Australia) where drop bears, possums, venomous spiders and snakes flourish and terrorise humans on a day to day basis. I'm Euric Rye Donovan and I am a fellow ff.net writer as I presume most of you are as well. Since my pen-name is tediously long, feel free to refer to me as Finn.
To be honest, I'm not exactly sure why decided to join Poirot Cafe but I found it to be quite an intriguing forum (not to mention I was invited by Crimson Amarone and I think it would have been rude to reject such a friendly offer outright). I must say, I'm not exactly a prolific writer (at least I used to think I was) and my longest fan-fiction isn't even remotely related to Metantei Conan or Magic Kaito. If any of you have read my earlier works, I'm sure you would have noticed the shift in my prose. I'm a bloke who likes to infuse my stories with imagery and I hope people have taken a note of that.
Although I do like receiving reviews, the reviews from ff.net for most parts have been somewhat lacking. I am not saying I do not appreciate comments that runs along the lines of 'ZOMG, nice story! Me wantz moar now!!' but I do wish I receive more in-depth type reviews that would allow me as writer to improve on a story that I hope would be able to entertain me and readers.
If any of you have read my story Of Mysteries and Thievery, I am guessing you guys should know by now that I'm into MK much more than DC if not for any other reason than I prefer Kaito over Shinichi as a character. Also, I hope you managed to pick up the fact that I love write AUs/ARs. I know it's not everyone's cuppa but I hope people give my stories a chance.
I tend to write rather long-winded sentences and my dialogue can be quite stilted a lot of the times so reader's discretion is advisable before reading my works of fiction. As a side note, I love trying to get into the psyches of the characters I write so more often than not, you'd probably see me writing more in line with a character study than filled with action and I've had people tell me that such a thing is quite anti-climactic follow a 'thrilling' previous chapter. Plot and character development are things that I wish are reflected in OMAT as I am a sucker for well thought out stories.
Also, if anyone has noticed, I tend to write things that have captured my attention and once upon a time, I had decided to write stories for The Ranger's Apprentice and Ouran High School Host Club which are currently on indefinite hiatus. However, unlike these passing interests, Detective Conan and Magic Kaito had always held a special place in my childhood back when it was first aired on TV (mind you, it was dubbed in English).
As a kid, I had always tried to emulate Conan and I was sure glad he had shrunk back then (considering that as a kid, I thought it would have been hard acting like a hot-shot teenager) because I was perhaps just as short as he was around the time... I could also still remember the fact that my siblings and I often re-enacted particular story arcs.
Anyway, I'm sure I had managed to thoroughly deplete your interests already so I might as well end my rant here before someone dies of boredom. Anyway, I hope to hear from you guys and I would always be glad to help anyone out should they seek my help (as I have managed to pass a 2 year high school standard literature class without performing too miserably). Likewise, I hope this goes both ways.
