Umm.... Not really sure what to put here... I'm a big DC fan and fanfiction frequenter... I consider myself to be an analytical kid, but I've got a serious fangirl side... And my hobbies are reading and translating! At any rate, it's awesome to see all these DC fans gathered like this! Most of the people I know in real life have hardly even heard of the series, much less have the same love for it as I do. Thanks for reading this sad excuse for an introduction, and I hope to get to know you all soon!

Oh cool, you can translate? I don't know enough Japanese to do that unfortunately . . . I do try to pick up what I can though I know, right? Nobody I knew that wasn't from an Asian country knew of DC. However, I succeeded in getting three people into it Hope you didn't mind my looking at your fanfiction profile Yay, another Owl City and Relient K fan! ^_^ What's your favorite song from each of them? Mine's Shooting Star and/or Galaxies and Maintain Consciousness. I like your Japanese note at the end. 私も! Hope to see you later on the forum!

Wow, you translate?! (Oops... I'm just repeating what nikudounatsumi said) But still, awesome! I actually would like to be that good, but in the future you can be anything! I've bought Genki 1 and will begin to study. How did you learn Japanese (assuming that it's not your mother tongue)

There's other Owl City fans out there! Yes! I really love "Saltwater Room" and "Hot Air Ballon"! Have you heard his new song, "Tokyo"? It's a duet with a Japanese band called "Sekai no Owari"! (Also, tell me if I'm alone in this or not, but does the first part of "Bombshell Blonde" kind of remind you of Vermouth? And does "I'm Coming After You" sound like KaiShin?) for Relient K, My favorites are "There's other Owl City fans out there! Yes! I really love "Saltwater Room" and "Hot Air Ballon"! Have you heard and Not Slow Down", as well as "Therapy"! I haven't heard "maintaining consciousness though... I'll have to check it out! The Owl City/Relient K duet, "That's My Jam" is my all time favorite though! I wouldn't stop listening to it for weeks!
Also, Nechangi! Thanks for getting me into the forum! So far, everything looks amazing! I always tell people that, when learning a new language, the most important thing is to get practice. I know that sounds obvious, but there's no way to get around it. What I would suggest you do is just read over as many grammar lessons as possible from a textbook or the internet, learn what all the participles do, and get the order of words strait in your mind. After that, try to look into just a bunch of random Japanese words that you're likely to see often (for example, you might want to know the feeling words, colors, numbers, basic greetings, etc.) It's totally ok if you don't MEMORIZE every last grammar drill or every kanji that you ever read, because really you just need to have seen them somewhere before. After that, fond an online Japanese-English dictionary. Look up articles, manga, books, or anything written by a native Japanese speaker really, and just try to translate them. Never use the dictionary to translate whole sentences, but by looking at unfamiliar sentences, you get a feel for the grammar by trying to sort things out yourself. And by seeing unfamiliar words, you are forced to look up words, and so are exposed to vocab. Even if you don't remember every word you look up, if you read a paragraph of Japanese or a few manga pages a day, you start to see commonly used words over and over, and eventually you'll recognize the word upon seeing it. This works especially well with works that have already been translated into English (in fact if you're a beginner, that will be the ONLY way it works), because then you can check your work. You'll be able to say, "oh, every time I see the word "は" in a sentence, it says something IS something else, so "は" must be something like the Japanese equivalent to "is". Or "it looks like when an adjective is followed by the word "過ぎる", the translation always has "too" or "too much", so that's probably what it means. If you get really confused or you need clarification on something, ask a Japanese friend to explain what's going on. If you're like the other 80% of us here who don't have Japanese friends, feel free to PM with questions if you actually try to learn like this! Learning a new language takes dedication and time. You can't become fluent over night, and you won't feel like you're progressing a whole ton, but you'll be surprised at how much you will have learned in a month if you have enough resolve. Also, try not to slow it down to make it easier, you're older, you're not going to learn the alphabet like a kindergartener does. One kana character a week is probably too slow for anyone over the age of ten. Again, you want to see letters and kanji sentences and words as often as possible, and even if you forget how to read something, you can keep a reference with you until you feel completely comfortable with the language. I hope this helps!

I figured I should welcome you too, even though you welcomed me first, so welcome~! And wow, Japanese! That's pretty cool :3 I'm learning Korean right now because kanji confused me a bit too much. ^^; Hanja seem easier (probably because I can actually read hangeul ^^ , so maybe I'll try Japanese once I get Korean down since they're all related ;3

Really? My sister's learning Korean too! But she's always complaining about the grammar... But she thinks the words are easier than Japanese, so I can see why you would go there first!

Owl City and Relient K do a duet? And Adam does a song with a Japanese band? Oh I've GOT to check these out! I haven't heard some of these songs . . . As for bombshell blonde, I haven't thought of that before. *quickly listens to the beginning* Hm, are you talking about the instrumental part or the lyrics? ^_^ I usually practice my Japanese by watching anime and getting authentic Meitantei Conan tankoubons from Japan and reading them ^_^ Well, they're imported from Japan, but I actually buy them from a store called Kinokuniya. Either way, I have 13 Meitantei Conan tankoubons and just recently got a Magic Kaito one (the 4th, with the title cover of Kaito breathing fire) Oh yeah, and I also have a Japanese dvd of The Lost Ship in the Sky.

I mean the lyrics, like for example, "that vixen, she's a master of diguise" , "she could lead to my demise", and those kinds of things... It's definitely one of the more different Owl City songs though! I own like one Japanese DC manga, and that's about it. I read the majority of my manga online, and even the stuff I translate has to be cleaned on Photoshop. Quality is not always fantastic ^_^; I'm a little jealous that you have the 14th movie on DVD though, that was one of the best ones! Have you seen movie 18?

Yeah, I could see how that'd remind you of Vermouth I read most of the English translation of manga online and then I read Meitantei Conan in Japanese in the physical tankoubon, since there's a place where I can get it close to me, and because I can't find much raw DC online. It WAS one of the best ^_^ And yes, I've seen movie 18 and like that one a lot as well. Specifically the ending right before the song XD

Yea, I've begun studying hiragana and gone through a couple of chapters in the book. I've actually heard a wlogger that said the same thing, but I don't remember who it was. But I haven’t really read much yet. It's easier to write than to read (I find that hilarious). You write a couple of sentences and then look at it without being able to understand. But to the future! *raising imaginary glass*

Agh, I SWORE I was gonna look up movie 18 this week! But you know that annoying assistant in your head that comes up to you at the worst times and reminds you of all the homework and extracurricular appointments that you already had scheduled beforehand? She sorta slapped me in the face with the stuff I shouldn't have procrastinated on... And yet here I am... But hey, even if the Raws aren't online, you're supporting Gosho this way!
And yeah, writing is definitely more engaging than reading the text if you're really into it, but then you're going to get into kanji.... And I will wish you so much luck. If you can write sentences, you're also getting practice with the characters, and that will be a big help with engraving them in your mind (one thing to do when you're bored in class is to write down as many objects, names, and words as you can think of while the teacher drones on about the stuff you read last night!)

Your sister is pretty amazing then! XD The words are easier than Japanese, that's for sure, and the grammar is confusing until you get a hang of the different types of formal speech and banmal, but it's really fun to learn! //nodnod I guess since I like to listen to Kpop ballads, it's easier to pick things up than it was when I tried to learn Japanese ^^;

Yes, I'll write as many sentences as I can, I also learn glossary by writing it down and folding it away. English in the margin to the left and then the Japanese word beside them. Then I fold the paper so that only the English words are visible and write the Japanese again, and then fold again. Works worse with long words... But you can fold the paper so that you can write the Japanese words seven times while English only once ^^ ... Some would say that it's over-kill... But hey, it just works for me XD Yea, I'll be sitting in class and writing Japanese all over my notes!

My sister is quite the K drama nerd... But then again I'm quite the anime nerd too! And she complains about the grammar like my parents when they talk about Obama... But trying to learn them both is like trying to learn French and Spanish. They're different, but you can draw parallels for them both! She and I compare notes and vocab sometimes, and the word order and some words are more or less the same!
And I've still got my tiny notebook full of kanji and kana from when I was still memorizing them! You will go through sooooo many pages! Even folding them...
