I'm dreamingfifi. I like to write, and I've been looking for a writing forum to hang out at for a while. *waves* Let's see... about me... I'm a polyglot - I speak (to varying degrees of competency) English, French, Japanese, Sindarin, Quenya, Thalas'sian, Adûnaic, and did some research/data gathering on Tajiki in college. I was recently diagnosed with Asperger's. I'm pansexual, and I have a transgender wife. I'm pretty new to this fandom. Most of my fanfiction writing life, I only worked with Tolkien's world. I got into DC about 3 years ago. My favorite fanon is that Hakuba speaks Quenya. It's my two great fandoms combined! (Also, do you need Quenya dialogue? Quetin Quenya!) My fanfiction.net profile: www.fanfiction.net/u/221160/dreamingfifiI have a handful of DC stories on there: Awaking and Arising - I wrote my own version of the end of the series, except with 100% more lesbians and an immortal zombie boy/macguffin and LOTS of existential crises, also partially a character study on Vermouth. Kogorou - A character study on Kogorou. A Kindred Spirit - An AU about Sonoko and her love life, and a bit of a meditation for me about when I was young and closeted. Afterlife - An AU exploring what would happen if Shinichi ended up in an orphanage instead of at the Mouris. (WIP) I also wrote a set of essays: Detective Conan Fanfic RantsI look forward to discussing the craft of writing with you guys!

I am a SG1 fan! I'm not as into it as I am with other series, but I'm into it enough to greatly enjoy SG1 jokes. And Daniel is a fellow linguist (though he seems to have magical understanding all languages powers that I wish I had - there are people who center their whole careers on things like Navaho verbs. I don't know where he finds the time!)

No, not terribly creepy at all. Especially since there's a bunch of other people who stalk it too.

I watched most of the series at least three times (And Atlantis. Universe is an abomination that should never be mentioned). Haha. The brilliance with SG1 is how everything is based on some culture or history or language. The old movie from 1994 even created their own version of Arabic based on the old kingdom hieroglyphs (Considering we have no idea how to pronounce words back then. I must admit of choosing the funniest or easiest way to memorize certain hieroglyphs. Like the symbol for cat can be spelled 'meow' (miu)) And aye, I do agree with you that Daniel is the superhero of Archaeologists and linguists alike. He's the perfect combination of Indiana Jones and the typical boring academic. I'm personally just happy if I can translate anything with a dictionary! My Latin teacher used to call my 'Yoda'. That anyone can speak more then a handful of languages and on top of that be self thought is truly admirable.

Oh gosh, Universe... that was terrible. They completely misunderstood what made the other shows so entertaining. It's a wacky, weird premise, so the best way to deal with it is to embrace the weirdness.

Yeah. No one liked Universe. It changed from science-fiction to drama within the small society. Military versus civilians. There were barely any aliens either. And even the first episodes clearly showed a defiance towards Atlantis (with the colonel being knocked out and almost dying and everyone thinks (oh great, they are doing that again) only to survive. That was just unnecessary in my opinion). There were almost no actions. To this day, I cannot get through the first series. I tried twice, never again. Me and a few friends on one of the official stargate sites were psyched about the series for over a year. Talk about disappointment. There were no single element taken from any of the other shows. SG1 is amazing because of cultural understanding, how they show difference in how human history could have gone with influence by aliens, or lack of religion keeping us behind. And Atlantis is amazing because of the actions and brilliant storylines and dialogue and characters. Universe completely lacks the cultural understanding. And. I'm ranting again. sorry.

It's okay to feel passionately about something! And yeah, I agree 100%! For me, more than anything, it was just so... dreary. Angsty. It just didn't feel like an SG show at all. There are times that I'm up for that sort of story, but I wasn't looking for it in the SG series.

Ah, yeah. Agreed. SG has always been action and storyline first, some drama on the side as an afterthought.
