Beta Profile/Bio:
Describe who you are as a beta-reader, your betareading style, and/or expectations of anyone that wishes to acquire your services.
Honestly I'm pretty adaptable. No matter who the author is or how they write, it generally doesn't take more a chapter or two of working together for me to figure out how I should go about helping them. I'll also try my best to communicate with the author so that things go as smoothly as possible. All I ask of anyone who might want to work with me is to be open to constructive criticism. Normally I'll list all the bad points of a given chapter first and then follow up with good points to keep authors from becoming too disheartened, but this works best if authors keep the criticisms in mind ^_^
My Strengths:
Honesty is not boasting. Name areas of betareading/writing you excel at. Everyone has a different perspective of the world and skills.
I am definitely big on correcting grammar. Be it spelling, syntax, or tenses, I'm always on the lookout! Spotting logic and plot holes is another thing that I do well with. A lot of times stories have problems that reader find hard to explain in words, even if they know something isn't right, and by now I've gotten rather used to explaining common-but-difficult-to-place problems in stories. I've also gotten used to taking time and conversing with authors to help them move their stories along when they get writers block. I can't say I've mastered the art, but helping authors move forward is an awesome part of the job!
My Weaknesses:
Perfection is the pursuit of perfection. Talk about your weaknesses as a betareader/writer.
Although I'm always up to helping authors get past road blocks, I'm super socially conscious, and I always want to avoid bothering authors. For that reason, if an author who I'm betaing for hasn't written a chapter in a long time, it's unlikely that I'll consistently nag them to get writing again. Also, I'm RIDICULOUSLY nitpicky. There have been cases in the past in which I have ranted about for a LONG time about trivial details. Like, to the point of redundancy. But! I am trying to fix that! Oh, and some days I can be extremely blunt. Other days I'll try to sugar coat things, but you shouldn't always count on it...
Preferred:
Are there some type of stories you would prefer to beta over others?
I enjoy stories with intricate plots and humor, but that's a little general... I read a lot of romance in my spare time? But I have ideals and philosophies about romance that may make me read certain stories with a raised eyebrow. When it comes down to it though, it's not my story, and the author gets the final say. Just give me anything. I'll try to make it the best it can be regardless.
Not My Cup Of Tea:
Are there some type of stories you would not betaread?
I don't really have any genres that I truly detest. I've read/edited stories that I wouldn't have necessarily picked up on my own before, but that doesn't mean I worked any less on them.
Fandoms Offered:
Are there any particular fandoms that you can beta for?
Detective Conan (and Magic Kaito, naturally), Kuroko no Basuke, Haikyuu, Katekyo Hitman Reborn, Glee, Harry Potter, Yugioh, Percy Jackson, Artemis Fowl, K project, Ansatsu Kyoshitsu, and I'm sure there's more but I'll stop here...
