So...mm...okay...this is so awkward. I've never done this before so it'll probably be all mesed up but I'm willing to try. So...I like the color purple...and ammm I like hot chocolate....Oh yeah! I'm a dentist....or well I hope to be *scratches head..looks embarrassed* It's my first year and it's going well so far *two thumbs up* Thank God for that.
I like to read. A LOT. Like very very much. The regularity by which I pick a book and disregard everything else in my life will ruin it I'm pretty sure. I have an anatomy exam tomorrow that I haven't finished studying for but..well....reading is fun!!! And addictive. And it bothers me sometimes that people don't actually believe me when I say that it really is an addiction. It so hard, physically tears me apart, if I had to leave a book unfinished. I'm a fast reader. I could finish a book of 800 pgs in 6 straight hours. Believe me, I've timed myself. *cough* That's not normal. Shouldn't have wrote that. Anyway, I know though that I should limit myself. I mean, it sometimes gets to the point where I'm too depressed while reading because I keep thinking of the things I should do but not have the strength or will to actually leave a boOkay I started ranting and rambling somewhere in there. *looks embarrassed..again* I should probably warn you though I do that a lot too.
Apart from my weird love for anything typed, I'm friendly and funny. Well I hope I am. I mean people laugh in my presence so that's a good sign, right. Ehem okay so that's it I guess. Hope I could make a good friend to anyone interested and well I'll go now since the anatomy book started to look freakishly large and I'll panick very soon so Bye bye!!

What Natsumi said. Geez. You binge read at a level comparable to how I binge write. That's seriously impressive. I'm a big fan of reading too. I'm lucky that at the law firm where I work, I can listen to audiobooks all day, so I get a lot of reading done. I really do prefer an actual, physical book, though...especially when there's lots of French (or Latin, for that matter). I understand French better if I can look at it. :/
So what kinds of books do you like reading? Is there a specific genre, or are you omnivorous? I tend to read books by people that have been dead so long their work is public domain. ^.^; I get all of my audiobooks from librivox.org. Well, and the library for the more modern stuff. I occasionally read something by someone not dead.
We've got a "What book are you reading?" thread in the off topic/random chit-chat section, so feel free to fangirl there, let others know what you thought of your latest reads.
I'm Mikau, by the way. ^.^; Wow. Completely forgot to introduce myself. And to welcome you to the forum too. ^.^; So...welcome! I hope you enjoy your stay! (And good luck with that exam!)

Thank u guyz!! Yeah it's over! Well this one is. I'm done with the anatomy exam thank God. And it was easy so YAAAYYY!!! Still got others coming up though ='(
Mikau I'm pretty sure I'm going to high jack that thread from now on.
Oh my God! I'm getting super excited just thinking about it! Imagine all the books I could reeeaaadd!!! All the books I could recommenddd!! *swoon*
Ehem weird...very weird
Oh and thank you for the compliment about my speed. Your speed in writing is waa impressive too. I don't think I'll ever write anything that fast wow.
I'm not a fan of audiobooks. Though honestly I never tried them. It's just..I feel that reading should be something between me and the words in front of me. It's a private thing for me. When I read I do not exist in this world. My friends more than once have tried shouting my name while I read and I truly do not register it. So...I don't know...I'll feel weird hearing someone else there with me.
MY FAVORITE GENRE?! You wanna know!! Ho ho hoo I'm going to ramble a lot here so ehem if u don't mind.
SOoo, I LOVE mystery novels. Not that much of a surprise I think since I AM in a "Detective" conan forum buuut anyway, I love them. So much. Very much. I have a huge database of mystery novels in my mind that could rival Sherlock's Mind Palace (ps: a wink to those who got the reference *giggle*)
I'm currently surfing into the fantasy genre. I've read all the books of Brandon Sanderson that I could get my hands on. I'm not sure if I'll like fantasy books from any other author, so...it's a working progress *shrug*
I'm not into romance much but I'm opening up to a lot of things lately
You know I just realized that I haven't introduced myself either!
So here it is: Hiiii!! I'm twinborn. You can call me any variation of a nickname u could think of. The rest is up there ='D
Pathetic intro I know

I get what you mean about audiobooks and reading being a private thing. I too really just prefer it to be me and the physical book in my hands. Unfortunately, I don't have much choice if I want to continue to be a bookworm. I work at a law firm, and I'm away from my house ten hours a day with work and my commute. I sleep eight hours, and a lot of the remaining six hours in the day is eaten up by chores, errands, family, and getting ready for either work or bed or the next day. If I didn't take advantage of librivox and the libraries and the awesome free audiobooks that they offer, I'd only be able to read an hour a day. If I listen to audiobooks at work and during my commute, I can listen up to TEN hours. More or less. I like music for my commute, but...I could listen then if I wanted to.
So yeah. Before last January when I started at the firm, I was with you about audiobooks, but now with so little free time, audiobooks have become a necessity. And I actually really like some of the volunteers on librivox. They remind me of when I was little and my mum read Little Women and Where the Red Fern Grows and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and the like to me. So I've adapted.
I also like that site in particular because it contains a database of really old, public domain books that I've never seen in libraries and wouldn't have come across if not for the site. For instance, I'm currently reading a book of English history published for children back in 1905 that I never would have come across in its physical form. They have authors long dead that I've never heard of but have nonetheless thoroughly entertained me with their work. It's just a really great resource. In the future I'm planning on reading an audiobook on there about English dress through the ages and a collection of Blackfoot folktales.
Ahem. As you can tell, Mikau has a favorite website. Anyway! Maybe you can recommend some modern mysteries for me. I'm researching modern mysteries as I contemplate writing my own, but I'm just not finding anything I like from someone who hasn't been dead for at least fifty years. Except Ellery Queen. I don't think they've been dead quite fifty yet, have they? But what I'm reading from them is over fifty years old, so... ^.^;
Well, once again, welcome! Good to have a fellow bookworm aboard!

I guess if I were put in your situation I'd choose audiobooks everytime. I can't imagine my life without books around me in any shape or form.
Maybe one day if college life started getting so frustrating, forcing my hours and such, I'd listen to audiobooks but hopefully it won't come to that.
I'll have to refresh my memory since I'm mainly dallying with fantasy for the past two years but I don't think I've read any mystery or thriller that wasn't in some way old.
Bookworms rule!!

Hi twinborn,
Welcome! I'm more of a fantasy reader than a mystery one, so it's nice to run someone giving fantasy a shot I'm also not a big fan of audiobooks, but that's also because I read a lot faster than the audiobook would narrate!
I haven't read Brandon Sanderson's work yet, but I'm thinking of giving Alloy of Law a shot. Do you think I need to check out the other Mistborn books first? I want to try something outside of medieval fantasy which is why Alloy of Law caught my eye.

Hi alisayang!
I haven't thought of that as a reason but yeah! I read soooo much faster than what I guess the narrators of an audiobook would.
I think it's better if you started form the begging with Mistborn. The world's elements would be much easier to get. Plus there's a sense of continuity to the story even if the Mistborn Series is divided into several triologies with each triology in a different era. A lot of the history in the second triology and so forth is based on the events of the first triology. Aaand if you're interested in Brandon's bigger picture (the cosmere, shards, world jumpers, Hoid, etc..) then the first books are a must read.
