I had fun with this! It's my first prompt exchange so I'm not sure how well I did, but I hope you enjoy nonetheless. I also hope I surprised the prompter.
Prompt: Someone unexpected or unusual finds out the truth about Conan.
Notes: I'm definitely not caught up on DC so I don't know the real reactions with Conan/Shinichi and Makoto, and so if they seem odd or not possible, I apologize. I really liked the prompt and I've never seen a fic with Makoto knowing/finding out about Shinichi and so I tried. It was really hard to write, however, so it's not as long as I'd like, but I'll probably go back and edit eventually (once I learn more.)
Word Count: 720 (According to Word.)
“Kudo-san? Is that—Edogawa-kun?”
Shinichi froze, his eyes wide and turning to meet the gaze of the man before him. One hand was still on his bowtie, only a few inches from his mouth, and his other hand had just finished shutting his “Shinichi-Phone.” He hadn’t expected anyone needing to come near the hallway he was hiding in, but apparently he was wrong.
Before him stood Sonoko’s boyfriend Kyogoku Makoto, a puzzled look on his face. He could see in those green eyes that the teen was slowly but surely putting the pieces together.
Conan knew he needed to get out of this situation before too many questions were asked, so he put away his devices and adorned the most childish demeanor he could muster. “Oh, Makoto-niisan! What are you doing back here?”
The other paused for a second, seemingly not expecting the question. “Ran-san got a call from Kudo-san and so Sonoko-san and I left to give her privacy, but we got separated so I’m looking for her.” Makoto responded, his eyes glancing at Conan’s pockets. “Was that your usual bowtie? And why did it change your voice to sound like Kudo-san’s?”
Oh shit he heard all of that! Shinichi mentally panicked. And with his keen observation he probably has enough clues to know that something is off about “Conan.” Time to go for plan A.
“Ahahaha, Makoto-niisan, are you okay?” Conan asked worriedly. “I think you’re hearing things.”
Makoto shook his head. “No, this isn’t the only time things have been strange. Hattori-san also acts strange around you, sometimes fumbling your name by saying ‘Ku-nan.”
Dammit Hattori, I knew your slips would come to bite me in the ass later. Shinichi inwardly cursed his fellow detective before looking back at the other in front of him.
Apparently, Makoto wasn’t done with his spot-on deductions. “And the few times I’ve been with you when there was a case, you get a little too serious, and it seems as if you lead everyone around with your comments. Plus, you’re KID’s greatest rival—a fact that he flaunts.” The karate champion knelt down in front of Conan, his eyes pointed and locked with the not-child’s. “Who are you? Kudo Shinichi?”
Conan—no, he’ll be Shinichi now. He can’t hide anymore. He’ll have to explain—sighed, the childish demeanor slipping off of his face. “Kyogoku-san, I’m surprised you’ve figured it out.”
Instantly, Makoto’s eyes widened. “I was right? But how—are you just—please elaborate.”
Shinichi briefly explained his current state (leaving out Haibara and the finer detail of the Black Organization, but still keeping the “bad guys did this and are still looking for me” bit.) Makoto listened intently, his focus never leaving the shrunken teen.
After a few minutes, Shinichi finally said, “Please keep this a secret from everyone you know, including Ran and Sonoko. If more people find out, the more chances of there being a major slip, and who know who else besides me will be killed.”
“I understand, Edogawa-kun.” Makoto winked at him before standing up and stretching his limbs.
Shinichi sighed in relief, a weight both sinking and lifting off his chest. While it was nice to have another ally in the battle against the Black Organization, that extra ally was another person in danger, another possible slip. He knew, however, that Kyogoku-san could take care of himself, and so he slipped his childish demeanor back on as Sonoko rounded the corner.
“Makoto-san! Brat!” She called as she came up to them. “What are you two doing back here?” Ran was behind her, curious as well.
The two males shared a glance at one another before smiling at the two girls. “Oh, we were just doing some male-bonding, you know?” Makoto stated.
“Yeah!” Conan affirmed. “Makoto-niisan was telling me about a tournament coming up and I was telling him about a KID heist he didn’t know about.” He grinned at Ran, who smiled back at him.
“I’m glad that Conan-kun is making more friends.” Ran said, her focus shifting to Makoto. “Thank you for watching him, Kyogoku-san.”
Makoto smiled back at her. “It was no trouble. I actually enjoyed learning more about him—he’s a pretty interesting kid.”
Ran nodded in agreement. “He is.”
You don’t know the half of it. Shinichi and Makoto thought simultaneously.
