It is not that bad in the manga, but the anime and movie? No...just no

I watched the movie just before. I enjoyed it overall, though felt a little meh about some things. One of my friends gushed about it at length back when it first came out, so I think all her "OMG, IT'S SO AMAZING!' exclamations raised my expectations. Probably didn't help I was super tired while watching, haha.
I didn't actually feel the fight scene between Amuro and Akai was that out of character. Maybe I just interpret Rei as being more aggressive lol. I dunno, it seems to me he was just seizing upon any excuse to vent his frustration at Akai. Plus, he does have a reason to want the special police to get what's-her-face instead of the FBI, since he's made it clear from his interactions with Jodie and Camel that he doesn't like the FBI. Add Akai into the mix, and yeah he's gonna be pissed and make justifications that might not seem the most logical (such as his 'we goin to fight right now!' war cry). I think the significant thing is that Conan did wake him up to his priorities, so he was able to put his feelings aside and help out. Both Akai and Amuro didn't anticipate bombs, after all.
As for the throwing off the jacket scene ... I didn't mind the fan service. Fufufufufu.
In regards to Ran, I do feel like the movies and anime do her a disservice a lot of the time. I haven't been following the anime for ages, but I do read the manga. I agree that she doesn't come across as quite so damsel-in-distressy in the manga. Though I still love all her BAMF moments in the movies (even if they are usually spoiled in the end by having Conan/Shinichi still come to save her somehow). In any case, in the manga at least, it's more like her vulnerability tends to come out when it involves Shinichi specifically in a romantic way, which is only natural. I don't know anyone who has been properly in love who hasn't felt insecure, weak and maybe a little pathetic. Add in the fact the guy Ran loves is "apparently" off somewhere and never telling her the full truth, and yeah, she's going to take things to heart and make some dumb decisions.
Really, I just feel like poor Ran always gets given so much flack. Yes, she doesn't always get to utilise her full potential, but she's still a great character.

I'd say that i enjoy this one a lot more than the last few movies. so i'm in a happy place.
Every time i watch the movies, i'll go like "Remember, Ran in the movies is always OOC. Don't take offence" so i'm glad that she wasn't so much this time, even though she doesn't get much screen time and i think her part in the movie was unnecessary and her (and Kogoro's) scenes are in only because they're major characters in the series.
The jacket scene? I'll have to go with Taliya and Mikau on this one. even though the fight scene does look unrealistically cool.
Also a little peeved about the helicopter scene with the BO, they are supposed to be sneaky! That's not sneaky at all! But yes, i know it's just there for the dramatics, DC movies can't end without Conan saving the world and all. But still!!

Yeah, the movies are always way over the top in terms of action scenes, etc. They're still ten billion times better than any Dragon Ball Z movie, though. I can't complain.
Honestly, I'm just happy I got to see more Rei. He doesn't get nearly enough limelight in the manga. It was interesting to see he has a connection with Junpei Matsuda as well.

I agree there, the connection with Matsuda. Particularly since he was not part of the PSB... but then since he's a bomb specialist, it makes sense that they would recruit him to teach their agents... Or was it the other way around with him helping out Division One?

I remember Matsuda was put into Division One to chill/cool down after his partner got killed. So i reckon the first theory is more prpbable

And that's how he briefly became Satou's partner before he died, right?

Yip. I find it interesting Gosho has chosen to link Rei to Date and Matsuda, and then we have the link with Elena as well. Gosh, I just wanna know his back story already.

Makes you wonder if it's been the plan all along, or were the characters conveniently used to movie the plot forwrd after they were created so they dont have to create more characters. (They have enough ppl in the main cast as it is, not to mention all the murders/murder suspects)
