Title: Surprise Party à la Sonoko
Prompt: How about some Sonoko x Makoto? And make it happy, please! Goodness knows there's too much angst on this forum already, haha.
A/N: I agree about the angst part, but I'm really bad at writing fluff and I have literally never ever written either of those characters, so I apologize in advance if this isn't what the prompter had in mind, and for potential OOC-ness.
She beamed at Makoto, not even trying to hide her excitement.
“You came to rescue me!”
He looked around, suspicion etched into his face, seemingly immune to her good mood.
“What's going on? Where is that guy?”
Shaking her head, she tugged at his sleeve and turned him around so he was facing the room.
“No guy. Surprise!”
On cue, their friends and families jumped out from their hiding places, echoing her “Surprise!” in unison and throwing confetti. His expression turned confused as he stared at the crowed. Then understanding dawned on his face and he faced Sonoko.
“You planned a surprise party for me?”
She nodded and waved at Ran, signaling her to bring the present.
“But .. that guy? I thought he was kidnapping you!”
“That was just my uncle in disguise. We were acting.” she said, then added louder, “It's okay, uncle! You can come out!”
Said uncle entered the room, hat and sunglasses in hands. The dumbfounded look on Makoto's face made her giggle. But his next words wiped the smile off her face.
“You idiot! Do you even know how worried I was? I thought he was going to-” He didn't finish the sentence, but he didn't have to. It occurred to Sonoko that, maybe this time she'd gone a little too far with her scheming. But she only wanted to surprise him and it was just so romantic when he rescued her, her knight in shining armor! Besides, it wasn't like anybody got hurt...
Seeing his expression, she realized that she was wrong. Somebody did get hurt.
She threw her arms around him, tears welling up in her eyes.
“I'm so, so sorry!”
There was a moment of hesitation, then he returned her embrace, aware of all the onlookers.
“It's okay. Just promise you won't do anything like that again.”
Sonoko drew back, a relieved smile on her face.
“Promise!”
Then she noticed his crimson cheeks and looked around, realizing that they'd had an audience the entire time. She cleared her throat and managed to find back to her earlier enthusiasm.
“Let's open some presents!”
