I went over this prompt many times, writing so many different ideas. In the end, this is the one I stuck with. Hope you enjoy!
DISCLAIMER: I don't own Magic Kaito or Detective Conan. If I did I'd make sure there were at least a few episodes not containing some sort of murder/kidnapping/hostage thing. Give poor Conan a break.
Prompt - Kaito meets the Kudou parents. Shinichi/Conan can but need not be included, and is very welcome as long as more focus stays on Yuusaku and Yukiko. Any genre goes, so from family fluff to suspense to hurt/comfort, whatever floats your muse. Be as creative as you like!
He wasn’t sure why this was happening. No, scratch that. He knew exactly why, and how, they got into this situation. He couldn’t understand how he had let it get this far. Across the room, his mother was helping Kaito touch up his flawless cosplay as Night Baron. His father was furiously typing on his laptop on a chair nearby, occasionally looking up to see how Yukiko and Kaito were coming along. Conan sat in the room next door, trying to ignore the shenanigans that were going on.
He thought that his mum would be excited about meeting his boyfriend, but he hadn’t expected that his dad would be just as excited (in his own way). Who knew that his parents had known Kaito’s parents when Kaito and himself were only little? His mum had trained under the renowned magician, and his dad had (most likely) chased the original KID, judging by his actions. Yuusaku had asked if Kaito wouldn’t mind dressing up as Night Baron and helping him by acting out some of the stunts he wanted his character to do. And thus this peculiar situation came about. He wasn’t surprised Kaito had agreed, although he was a little surprised his dad had suggested it in the first place.
They had started off in the kitchen, talking over coffee and cake. Everyone was behaving for once, and Conan had allowed himself to relax, which he soon found out was a very bad move. When it came to the washing up, Kaito politely asked Yukiko to start and he would pass all the plates to her. His mother smiled at his offer (“Isn’t he such a gentle man, Shin-chan?”) and walked into place. As soon as she stood at the sink, plates and cups were thrown in the air, juggled all together and passed over one by one. Yukiko looked excited, encouraging him to do something better each throw. Yuusaku just smiled before going over to his computer and beginning to type.
Sometime after the washing up, Kaito and his mother were talking animatedly about disguises and the techniques they used when his father abruptly stopped typing. They both looked up to see his slight smirk and decided they needed to find the cause. Conan decided to stay to the side, wanting to stay out of whatever they were planning. Hopefully they would forget he was even there and leave him out of it. He had a horrid fear that with both his mother and Kaito in the same room it would be only a matter of time until he was forced into a dress. His concerns were addressed quickly as his father asked Kaito a rather strange request.
He wasn’t surprised when Kaito jumped at the chance to dress up as Night Baron and try some new tricks, Yukiko insisting that they go all out on the transformation so they could exchange tips on costumes. His father also looked pleased with himself, the prospect of seeing his different ideas for real rather than just on the page had his father over the moon. They all looked like they were enjoying themselves, which was great, but Conan almost wished that they could have some more normal hobbies. It didn’t take that long for all the preparations to be ready and they all moved outside to the back yard. Kaito was soon climbing here, there, and everywhere, doings flips and timed scaling of the trees and fence.
His father was watching, with a mixture of pride and curiosity, glad for the chance to see how far Kaito had come in his skills. He could tell Toichi would be proud of his son. Kaito showed off a bit more as a reward for his mother’s enthusiastic encouragement and appropriate awe at his stunts. Himself, he just stood, watching, the normal strangeness of his parents and Kaito fitting together like a jigsaw. It wasn’t like he had planned, but seeing his parents and Kaito laughing over magic and illusions made his heart sing. They’d have to do this again sometime.
