So, when I got bit by the DCMK bug, it bit hard and now I have a cute, vicious little plot bunny staring me in the face, begging to be written. The problem is that it has been years since I have gotten properly bitten by the writing bug, so I know how I want to get from point 0 to point 12 (in fact, for the first time since a proper high school assignment, I have plotted it out and recorded it down) but the words are definitely not coming as smoothly as I want them too. It does/doesn't help that it has spawned an AU version of the same general line, so all the little adorable tidbits that would be a shade to much in the 'serious' story can get shoved into the magical version of it. So, my question is this : HOW DO YOU GET THE MUSES TO BEHAVE. I JUST WANT RAN TO PICK UP THE PHONE WHY IS IT SO HARD. ;_; I have been at this for a couple of weeks now and have about twenty sentences written. I remember the muses being fickle, but I never remember them being this bad.

listen to music, take a break... put them off guard, and then tackle the story suddenly so they don't have time to realize they're not supposed to be behaving! write whatever comes to mind, get the ideas down... i think it varies person to person, try a couple and see how they work? XD

The only one I have gotten to behave is a dove. A. Dove. ;_;

//stares out sagely into outer space with a single tear falling from her eye
the answer is that
you don't
All comedy aside, basic dialogue helps a lot. Set up your dialogue before you start stuff; just fast paced random bursts, and action if you imagine them to say it in a certain way.
So maybe this is your outline: Hakuba is explaining a case he's just solved, and Kaito's being difficult for some odd reason. The plot requires Hakuba to get irritated at Kaito to continue onto the next scene.
Have a rough dialogue idea:
Easy, general, gets the basic ideas down. If you change "Kuroba-kun" to any other name, it can be between any two people that's irritated at each other. Continue on for however long you like. After, add behaviours and change up dialogue as you see fit:
or even if you don't want to go that way and want to go with a tone that's just a bit lighter, and you get something more down:
With Kaito's uncooperativeness being passive aggressive and Hakuba just barely bottling it in.
It's all from the same bare bones: the first quote box up there. Get that down then try to add stuff? It doesn't have to be brilliant. Just get everything set up, get your bare bones, and try to manipulate things as it comes along. You can edit stuff, remember that.
Yeah, yeah I know, it isn't really simple when you have to do it and it's all obvious advice but you know ;~;

Watching brain games: dreaming really helps with increasing creativity, so . . . Keep a dream journal, write them down before you forget? Dreams have been the inspiration for a lot of things, including scientific discoveries, so . . . Oh, and do something that doesn't require much thought, like taking a shower. That's when your imagination takes flight, apparently.

All of these are so brilliant guys. Thank you! I used all of these and wrote out a simple plot bunny that started to nip at my heels. It's a trashy little thing, and I will probably hate parts of it on a through read through, but as a completed piece, I am happy. I cannot tell you the last time I wrote a completed piece. I just.
And it was hard, but I could taste how close it was to done. So yes. I must thank you all. <3 so so much.

So even though you're already done with the plunny, I still think this is a really helpful page, so I'm going to add another thing. I just discovered, like, a few minutes ago that talking aloud really helps, at least to get ideas. Also, if you don't know what to do, get down to the questions that really matter and affect the idea. I guess I'll use my rping problem that got me to realize it in the first place as an example.
So there was a prompt that said "Send 'Such a beautiful specimen.' for your muse to be a scientist keeping mine in captivity. Alternatively, send 'The other side of the glass' for your muse to be the test subject." So a Sam muse gave me "the other side of the glass". I had previously decided that I'd use evil Danny for any of this kind (cuz why would normal Danny turn someone into a test subject?), but the question was, why would Danny experiment on Sam in the first place? So while I was walking around the backyard, I asked the question out loud to myself and went from point A to point B to point C. "Danny may be evil but he still likes Sam" --> "Danny's permanently evil and can't really be fixed so Sam doesn't want to be with him anymore" --> "Danny still wants Sam anyway" --> "If Danny wants Sam he needs to change her mind" --> "The only way to change Sam's mind would be to change her to be fine with evil stuff" --> "Danny could either give Sam some of his Remnants to make her evil or he could turn her into a bioroid/cyborg and program her to be like him" --> "Neither I nor Danny have any idea how he'd be able to give her a Remnant, so that's out" --> "So he tried turning her into a bioroid/cyborg to reprogram her". That was basically my line of thought over a few minutes, and I don't think I would've figured it out if I hadn't been talking aloud, so . . . Just another idea to help, I guess.

Hi everyone... I've been lurking for a while here, and saying that I have ideas for writing and all... but is so difficult to actually finish something, so frustrating! D: I have a 2yr old, also finishing my studies, and when I read things here like the contests and prompts, I have some ideas... Does someone else have the best ideas while showering? XD Really, sometimes I wish I could shower with my pc. When I have the time to sit and write Im so tired, that I can only store some loose ideas. Look, here are my docs in fanfiction.net, all ideas and some scenes, but I can't seem to finish any

Shihominn You're not the only one, don't worry... I always have ideas for starting something but that's basically just it TT_TT Not with oneshots but long complicated stories. Don't want to start something that I want to make long if the inspiration disappears after the 1rst chapter... plus, I don't have much patience when writing so it kind of sucks for me Showering is a wonderful source of inspiration indeed, and doing so with the computer would be a really interesting experience I must say xD I'd probably never leave the bath so maybe it's not such a good idea. But in my case the best ideas come while trying to sleep. I always have a pen and a notebook next to the bed for that reason, just in case lol or listening to music as said in other posts, you know. Maybe you could keep said notebook & pen next to your shower or write what you just thought of as soon as you left? xD

If you have a tablet you don't mind typing on, you could conceivably put it in a watertight bag and work that way. Between a two year old and studies I can understand being stretched pretty thin, but it should get better as the kiddo gets older, right? I've heard of people learning to write really quickly for a few minutes at a time while babies and toddlers are sleeping. It's rough, but some people manage. One of things I do to save time while everything else in the world is busy is think about what I'm going to write during downtime. Stuck in line at a store? Stuck in traffic? It's brainstorming time. Waiting for oil change for my car? My laptop is out. Since you're studying you might already be doing this for classwork, but if you're not, it's another way to squeeze things in.

So I'm writing a research paper on multitasking, and in my research I discovered exactly why doing things that don't really require much thought help in getting ideas. So, just in case anyone is curious . . . (If anyone's curious, the entire article is here.)
