(I thought I might as well just start. Otherwise we're going to sit around talking about it forever and never actually do it. I'm starting off as Haku-chan, but I don't actually plan on being a major player in this RP at this point as I am currently previously engaged with the other RP, work, and my own writing, but I hope you guys will take this, run with it, and have a total blast. This will be a Kid heist featuring the Shounen Tanteidan; I'm just starting off with a tangentially related character so that I can start things off and get the heck out of here, so if any of the Tanteidan/Haibara/Conan want to jump in after my post, awesome. Or if anyone's interested in Kid/Kaito. If not, I might get tempted to jump in as him. I've always wanted to RP Kaito. ^.^; Anyway, enough chitchat. Let the show begin.)
Hakuba Saguru frowned deeply at the piece of paper in his hand. And then he muttered a quick "merde" before giving the kitchen stool a swift kick, pretending that it was Kuroba bloody Kaito.
Baaya gave him reproachful look both for the cursing as well as for his violence against the poor, defenseless inanimate object.
He hung his head guiltily, offering a sheepish, "Sorry. It's just that Kuroba's at it again." He went over to where she was preparing lunch at the stove and showed her the heist note.
Baaya blinked owlishly at it, adjusting her spectacles as she read aloud, "Come one, come all to my Magician's Ball and fall into my trap like a house of cards. Show me a Full House, my dears. Three Jacks: the Jack of Spades gorging himself as the Jack of Clubs shakes his head in disapprobation. All the while, the pretty Jack of Hearts smiles fondly at her friends. Two Aces: the Ace of Diamonds smirks at the folly, but she never truly smiles. The Ace of Spades, harbinger of death, sees through everything and thinks he has me beat. I'll steal a Royal Flush, and then we'll see who comes out a king."
The old housekeeper squinted and frowned, reading the words over once more to herself under her breath. "I feel like you two should make better use of your time and those massive brains of yours than spending them coming up with and deciphering this prittle-prattle. Why don't you and Kaito-kun team up and solve world hunger or the AIDS epidemic or cancer or something?"
Saguru gave his mother-of-sorts a wry look. "Baaaaayaaaa," he whined as he had when he was very small. He snatched back the notice from her, sticking his lip out in a pout.
Baaya laughed outright, delighting in the fact that he only ever acted like that in front of her. It reaffirmed their tight bond and made her feel special. "Oh, all right. You two carry on with your intellectual games of cat and mouse. I know how happy it makes you."
Saguru gave a little snort. And then suddenly he was over it and acting like a forty year-old man again. "But do you know what this means, Baaya?"
"Not a clue, my dear," she chuckled. "I'll have to ask Kaito-kun when he comes for lunch. He should be arriving any minute now. Is he staying the night tonight?"
Saguru snorted once more. "I doubt it seeing as he's got a heist tonight. The 'royal flush' he's talking about stealing in the note is a set of jewel-laden playing cards that the Suzuki's have just acquired. They're opening the exhibition tonight with a red carpet, suit-and-tie gala. That's most likely the 'ball' that Kid references. The Suzukis sent us an invitation, remember?"
Baaya nodded, a fond yet somewhat cheeky smile tugging at her lips. "Because they haven't completely given up hope that Sonoko-sama will break up with her boyfriend and marry you. They've been dreaming of a Hakuba-Suzuki union since they found out there was a Hakuba heir the same age as their younger daughter."
Saguru cringed. "I do believe that marriage would be the death of the both of us. We'd drive each other crazy."
"Indeed," Baaya laughed, adding a little spice to the soup.
"No, but the real issue here, Baaya, is that the 'full house' in the riddle is the Shounen Tanteidan."
Baaya's eyes widened slightly. "Oh?"
"Yes. And I'm going to kick that Kuroba in the shins for purposely provoking Conan-kun like that," the concerned friend grumbled. "He's been taking too many risks lately with the police, those shooters, and now Edogawa Conan as well. He's going to get himself killed!"
The doorbell rang.
Saguru smirked as he went to open the door, muttering, "If I don't kill him first."
"Don't get blood on the rug!" Baaya called after him.
The front door creaked a little as it opened, and Baaya could hear her foster-son's best friend cheerily greeting Saguru...and then there was a distinct yelp, followed by an incredulous, "What the hell was that for?!"
(How's that? I think I had too much fun with this. ^.^; Well, take it from there.)

(Hope you don't mind if I jump in with a little snippet of Haibara!)
If there was one thing that Haibara Ai was tired of, it was being dragged into whatever shenanigans the tanteidan (and their de facto leader) came up with. It was one thing to coincidentally be at the scene of a murder. It was another completely to be cordially invited to witnessing a crime.
Now, Ai was not a detective, but contrary to popular belief, one did not have to be a detective to be smart. She knew the period table of elements by heart, she could easily recite the alphabet of at least three different languages, and she was more than aware of the fact that Kaitou Kid was a general nuisance, which was why she didn't have to be a detective, only smart, to realize that his latest calling card blatantly referenced her alongside the rest of the children.
Or rather, alongside the children (for she and Conan weren't of the same variety as the tanteidan) and the shrunken (the variety that she created herself, a title that came in a small pill-sized package). Kid separated the two, just as Conan separated the two, just as she had been so prone to doing before she grew partial to being a child again. She didn't appreciate the obvious gesture - after all, it was bad enough that two living-children-who-were-supposed-to-be-dead-teenagers got as much media attention as they did, but now they were being discriminated against by an international jewel thief, a pair of aces hidden amongst the jacks. She couldn't help but wonder if he was trying to get them noticed by her homicidal ex-employers.
But que sera sera, and all that, she determined as she sat alongside the kids (and particularly short high school student) she called friends, watching them bicker and plot among themselves, getting ready for the night's main event. They were excited for the opportunity to catch Kid, and she wouldn't rain on their parade - perhaps insert some cynicism and much-needed realism, certainly, but not utterly destroy their good mood.
"And I take it you have a plan to catch the uncatchable?" Her question was voiced before and after several sips of tea. She wouldn't doubt it if they didn't, would actually be rather surprised if they came up with anything that didn't involve a phantom-thief-sized bug net, but this ace of diamonds would play along.
Yes, it was fun to play along.

"What the hell was that for!?" Kaito demanded. He had just barely managed to avoid a well-aimed kick from his classmate and best friend. Of course, he knew full well the reason behind the high school detective's actions. Kaito couldn't help but laugh inwardly.
While he always enjoyed watching the KID Task Force struggling to decipher his heist notes, Kaito had to admit that it was much more fun to see how much the notes pissed off Hakuba. Today, the Brit seemed especially annoyed.
(I know that it's not much but I'm still kind of new to this. My role-playing will get better! I promise!)

(I find short-form stuff easier, especially since there's a group of 5 around the table here, and I wouldn't like to force people's reactions ) In response to Haibara's question, Mitsuhiko carefully placed down his cup of tea. He then pulled out a notebook - nice blue cover, although it wasn't as good as his notebook which came with the free torch - from his backpack, clumsily opening up a page listing all the things he knew about Kid. It wasn't a huge amount, but it was a work in progress. Like the flying drone schematics were a work in progress. "Ano... we know Kid can fly, is really fast, and has a taser. He's sort of like a big white wasp! Maybe we can use a lot of nets somehow, or perhaps one of those bug-zapper things." The Bug-Zapper he had hanging outside his window had been his favourite gift.

"It should be obvious that I'm jealous," Saguru retorted, taking the opportunity to give his friend a hard time. Kaito always messed with, pranked, pretended to flirt with, publicly humiliated, teased, and generally screwed with Saguru. Now it was time for the Brit to get some revenge. ...He just hoped that Kaito wouldn't pay him back in kind.
"Nowadays, it's always about 'Tantei-kun this' and 'Tantei-kun that'. You've completely pushed me aside for a younger man, and I. Am. Jealous," Saguru declared with a snort, crossing his arms and turning up his nose.
Chuckling, Baaya poked her head out from the kitchen. "Oh, he's just worried about you, Kaito-kun. He's been going on about you taking too many risks with the Organization and the Taskforce and now those cute little detectives with their prodigy of a leader. He cares about you, so he makes a fuss. You're the best of the few friends he's ever had, and he's afraid of losing you," the matronly caretaker explained on behalf of her charge, making poor Saguru go red up to the tips of his ears.
"Baaayaaa!" Saguru groaned in his mortification.
(Sorry that took so long. ^.^; Hellish week. Somehow I ended up RPing Baaya as well.)

Kaito noticed Hakuba's face turning bright red and knew that it was the perfect opportunity to get back the detective for trying to tease him. Did the half-Brit really expect him to not get him back? "I didn't know you cared so much," Kaito cried out as he latched himself onto his best friend in a tight hug. "To think that you were so worried about me!" Normally, the magician would have been denying to be KID but he saw no point in pretending when it was just the two of them...and Baaya. Besides, it wasn't like Hakuba had any proof.
Still, Kaito could understand how his friend was feeling. It wasn't like being an international thief was the safest job in the world. "But there's no need to worry, my dear Hakuba." Kaito said theatrically, adding a smug wink for emphasis. "I'm a professional." As if to prove his point, a dove mysteriously appeared on the detective's shoulder, a white rose in it's beak.

Saguru squeaked in alarm as Kaito wrapped his arms around him like a boa constrictor.
Baaya surreptitiously snapped a picture for scrap-booking purposes, smiling like a proud mother hen at her boy and his first real friend. It was so good to see Saguru getting on well with someone his own age. The boy could be so uptight at times. She understood that he was used to acting mature so as not to be brushed off as a child by the law enforcement officers that he worked with, but...Saguru had paid for being taken seriously with his ability to interact normally with his peers. It filled Baaya with joy to see her charge squawking and blushing and acting like a normal, goofy teen with Kaito-kun.
Meanwhile, as Baaya smiled and laughed, Saguru was quickly approaching his mortification threshold. He tried not to stutter or twitch as he shammed calm stoicism, as if he were unaffected by Kuroba's antics.
"Indeed," Saguru snorted indignantly before taking the rose from the bird's beak and tucking it into his breast-pocket. "Lovely. Thank you. I've always wanted to receive roses touting my purity from another man," he added sarcastically. "At least I can use it as a boutonniere tonight since it looks like I'll be accepting the Suzukis' invitation after all. Heaven knows I have to make sure you don't get yourself arrested by that pre-pubescent piranha...or worse--killed by those gun-toting monkeys," Saguru huffed, picking up steam fueled by his worry. "You do realize it's a full moon tonight. They are liable to be there. You do have a sensible plan, don't you?"
Baaya rolled her eyes and simpered at Saguru's unnecessary concern. Kaito always had a plan--a few dozen plans, even--up his sleeve. "Well, you boys come on in the kitchen once you're done flirting and fussing over one another. Lunch is just about ready."
Saguru grimaced, taking the opportunity to slip out of the hold Kaito still had on him.

Ayumi was over the moon. After that night on her balcony, she had thought she would never get to see the thief in person again. But now they were actually being personally invited!
The heists were always so late at night and her kaa-san said that it was dangerous to be out in those crowds, so she had never been allowed to actually go to one. It took a lot of effort just to convince kaa-san to let her stay up late and watch them on tv.
The heists were amazing, but the Kaitou Kid on the screen just wasn't as impressive as he was in person. Standing tall and confident, effortlessly balanced on the rail. The light of the moon casting a soft glow around him... Almost like magic! She blushed, remembering how he had knelt down and kissed her hand; before the police caught him in their searchlights and he had to make his escape.
She had a hard time reconciling the image of the thief gliding off into the night with a wasp. He just seemed more... graceful than that. Like a butterfly!
Ayumi's eyes widened in shock "But, Mitsuhiko-kun, wouldn't a bug-zapper hurt him?!"

Kaito smiled at Hakuba reassuringly. Despite making a show of brushing it all off as if it was nothing, Kaito was almost as worried when it came to them. After all, they were the ones responsible for his father's death. The teenage magician's hands subconsciously clenched into fists at the memory of Toichi Kuroba's last performance. But it only lasted a second. Kaito smiled his usual smirk as he grabbed Hakuba's arm and dragged him towards the kitchen, complaining the entire time about starving to death. Even as they ate lunch (which Kaito thought was way better than the burnt crisp of death that Aoko usually made), Kaito ran over his various plans for tonight in his head. There was no way that he was going to mess up...not when they were involved. (I feel like that showed a little bit of my darker writing style but all well!

Kaito completely ignored everything that Saguru had said, grabbing the detective's arm and hauling him into the kitchen. All the while his friend exaggerated loudly about how hungry he was, effectively eliminating any chance for Saguru to press about Kaito's preparations.
Honestly, it kind of annoyed the Brit despite the fact that he should have been used to it by now. It was typical Kaito to shut everyone else out. Saguru had a feeling that Kaito kept it together by slapping on a carefree grin and insisting that everything was okay. Saguru had done the same thing for many, many years through his parents' separation, his mother's rejection, his father's lack of time for him, the animosity of his peers...but...Saguru had stopped pretending around Kaito and Kaito alone. He just wished that the magician would do the same.
"I suppose I haven't won his trust yet," Saguru thought with a sigh as they took a seat on the bar-stools at the island in the kitchen where Baaya had set out a veritable feast of tempura vegetables, white rice, miso soup, a grilled medley of seafood (minus any actual fish), and fresh fruit salad for dessert.
Kaito seemed distracted through the meal. He would reply jovially to Baaya's comments, responding promptly, but...Sauru could see it in his friends violet eyes. Kaito's thoughts were elsewhere. Saguru had learned to read the magician during the year he'd spent researching...oh, all right--stalking--Kaito before Saguru had found out about Pandora and the Organization. Saguru could see past that mask that Kaito always wore, and he could tell that Kaito really was worried about this evening.
Kaito was just in the middle of complimenting Baaya's cooking when Saguru got fed up with the whole charade and broke in: "--You know, if you're not feeling confident about tonight...I mean...Kuroba, is there anything I can do to assist? Did you want to go over your plans, or...? I might not be able to offer any practical help, but at the very least you can use me as a sounding board. As much as I grumble and deny it, I really am your friend, Kuroba, and I'm worried about you, so...?"
Saguru looked down at his plate, knowing that Kaito would only laugh it off and deny that he was Kid...again. Because Kaito still didn't trust Saguru.

Kaito looked up at Saguru in surprise. He wasn't expecting the sudden outburst from the always overly proper detective. Kaito's first instinct was to laugh it all off and pretend that he had no idea what Hakuba was talking about...but that wasn't the right thing to do. Kaito trustedHakuba more than anyone...along with Jii anyway. Despite trying to avoid Hakuba when the detective first transfered to his class, Hakuba was now his best friend. Kaito knew that Hakuba had found out about Pandora too. It was only natural that the Brit would want him to tell him things, right?
"Do you know why a magician doesn't tell people the secrets behind their tricks?" Kaito paused to let Hakuba and Baaya think for a moment, before continuing. "You might think that it was to prevent sabotage or because they didn't trust the other person. But that's not always the reason why. Sometimes, it's to protect the other person. If the know too much, they may be in danger."
Without giving Saguru a chance to respond, the teenage magician stood up, bowed, and walked out of the room.

Conan was pissed. No, he was beyond pissed, and the fact they were currently discussing Kid´s stupid heist notice did not help his mood. At All.
The day started… horribly. Not only had he been woken up by a drunk Mouri, at freaking six am, who had just returned from one of his night escapades, but he also had been forced to cook breakfast, which obviously ended burned. With Ran away from home, life suddenly seemed rather unbearable. It had been only one day, and yet he already started regretting his decision not to put Mouri to sleep unless on cases. The man just wouldn’t shut up, even when sleeping, calling Yoko´s name.
To make matters worse, a heist notice arrived. That stupid thief! Wasn´t it enough he was actually inviting them, did he really have to make Haibara and him stand out? Sure, most wouldn´t understand who was whom, but those whom knew the Shounen Tanteidan personally would end up asking questions. Not to mention that he actually dared to call him the harbinger of death! Hadn´t they already discussed that issue? Last time the bastard dared to call him Shinigami, quite by accident actually, the thief ended up running away for half an hour from his soccer balls. This time, Conan would make it a whole hour…
Shaking his head, trying to return to the present, while slowly drinking black coffee to calm down his nerves, Conan was already planning his revenge. If that stupid thief actually thought he could call him that… well, he surely was more naïve than he let on.
Eyeing his friends, and partners in crime, he smirked. Oh, yes, he would have his revenge and they would help… after all, they would love to catch the thief. Returning his attention to them, he listened to their opinions, trying to hide the thrust of revenge under a controlled excitement.
Having missed Mitsuhiko´s words, all he had was Ayumi´s replay, but even that was enough. Obviously his friend called Kid bug or something similar, and it only made his feel better. “Well, he did use a teaser on me, so he can´t complain about pain.” Not to mention he planned to do something much worse. “However, we do need to make a plan… So, who wants to catch Kid?” And hurt him.
ooc: Conan snapped... too much pressure, if you ask me.

(Yikes! Conan's scary! Great to have you on board, Kaggami!)
Saguru let his head drop to his chest with a sigh of frustration. Dealing with Kaito routinely wore him out.
Baaya quietly set to clearing away the dirty dishes. Her silence was condemning, like she was chastising him for something he was neglecting to do.
Saguru looked up at her and grumbled like a child. "I am NOT going after him. I am not his boyfriend, and I am not his mother."
You could have fooled Baaya on both counts the way Saguru fussed over Kaito and was overprotective of him.
The continued silence was disquieting, spurring Saguru to go on, to justify himself. "I don't have to go after him and sort things out. I don't have to. I'm already tired, he's exhausting, and I need to save my energy for tonight."
"That's fine, Dear. I didn't say that you had to go after him," Baaya finally replied.
Saguru frowned at the (imagined) disapproving undertones to her words. "Furthermore, I'm a little sore about him treating me like a child. I don't need protection, so where does he get off trying to shield me from things I'm already fully aware are going on. I don't coddle him like that. I don't smoother him in overprotective concern, do I?"
The question was meant to be rhetorical, but Baaya went ahead and responded anyway. "Actually, you do, Dear."
Saguru's frown deepened. He looked back down at his mostly empty plate.
"Kaito-kun is just worried that you're going to get killed. And then he'll feel like it's his fault."
The only sound for almost an entire minute was the clinking of dishes as Baaya carried them from the island to the dishwasher.
Mentally Baaya began to count down. Five. Four. Three. Two...
Saguru stood up and pushed in his stool, racing out of the kitchen and down the hallway, catching up to Kaito just as the magician was reaching for the front doorknob.
"Hey!" Saguru called as he skidded to a stop at the lip where the hard wood became tile. "Hey," he repeated as he realized that he didn't really know what he was going to say. He bit his lip and furrowed his brow, rubbing the back of his neck bashfully as he announced, "You know, if you don't take me into your confidence, I'm only going to stick my nose where it doesn't belong and end up getting myself into trouble. Haven't you said it yourself many times that I'm stubborn and nosy? I'm not going to force you to talk to me, but...know that I'm very difficult to keep safe due to my propensity for getting myself into danger. Know also that I am determined to have your back in this fight. I won't leave you to muck this out on your own, so I think it'd be better to give me a little information to keep me from getting in your way, but..."
Saguru took another breath and then looked up to meet Kaito's gaze. "I will see you tonight, Kuroba."

(( Sorry, Conan... ))
Haibara was wholly unsurprised by each of their reactions, and simply sighed as they talked it out. While she would usually side with whatever Conan said - not that she had a choice, he really was the brightest of them, something she admitted begrudgingly - she knew that Ayumi also had a point.
"Edogawa-kun, must I remind you to keep a clear head?" She rued the day she ever decided to become the not-child's voice of reason, and took another sip of her drink to calm herself down. "Trying to harm KID will only go over as well as his attempt to hurt you." God knew they both had the same poor attitude about losing the upper hand, if past heists were anything to go by. She thought back to the last time anybody had tried to 'net' the thief, namely Jirokichi's less-than-stellar trap with the Purple Nail. Well, perhaps a net wouldn't be of use either, but too much realism turned to pessimism in the other children's eye, so she held her tongue.
Instead, she eyed the diminutive detective warily. "If anybody were to capture KID, I would recommend it not be you." Recklessness and arrogance could only do so much when there were two egoists in the room, not to mention she was beginning to suspect that he had rather...un-innocent reasons for wanting the thief caught, other than sending him to prison.

Waving Haibara´s concern away, Conan tried not to grin. Finally something good would happen. He needed to do research… usually he came unprepared, but this time… this time he would make the thief regret inviting him. Others would be great help. There was, however, the issue with Haibara. While she probably would help, she wouldn´t cooperate as well as he would have liked, and it could create problems. Not to mention there was still the issue with the taskforce. One would think they learned from their past mistakes, but apparently, they preferred to play to Kid´s tune.
“This is our opportunity. The last time Kid used us. So, this time, we need to show him that no one uses Shounen Tanteidan! Not to mention the cases we´ll get once everyone knows we managed to hit, I mean, hinder the thief.”
Conan needed to talk with the Hakase… hopefully the inventor had made new stuff. Conan could offer to test them out… Lowering his tone of voice so only Haibara could hear, he mumbled. “I am not interested in capturing him today. I want to humiliate him. Aren´t you angry at his heist note?”
