Haha. Well that's a new characterization of Hakuba if I've ever heard one. Full of himself and a womanizer? I guess that would be an interpretation based on taking him solely at face-value in the original and deciding that there's nothing else to him, nothing deeper. I've personally always thought of his arrogance at first when he appears in MK as a front, kind of like Kaito's ever-cheerful poker face, covering up Hakuba's insecurity. ...And then Kaito takes him down a few pegs and we gradually get to see Hakuba lighten up in canon the more he appears in the series until he actually ends up helping/sympathetic to Kaito/Kid in the Golden Eye and Nightmare sections.
I suppose it's possible to have different interpretations of Hakuba depending on how close a look you decide to take at him. Is he really as he appears? A stuck-up narcissist? Or is he hiding something? Is he trying to compensate for some hidden weakness or self-doubt? I choose to put him under a microscope and study his family situation (because there's no way that his parents have a happy marriage living continents apart) and the resulting psychological aspects concerning his upbringing combined with other factors (like the bi-racial thing. It's really hard being different in Japan. I'm not saying all half kids end up messes, but I think Haku-chan would given the other variables).
Anyway, I could talk about Hakuba all day. I've been studying him for the past ten years. I can see why you might think that he's full of himself, but where did the "womanizer" part come from?
In other news, I used to like AiCon when I was younger, when I was first starting the series a decade ago. I read a lot of AiCon fics at that time. I seem to remember one in particular called Ai Edogawa. I don't know if I'd still like it, but fourteen year-old Mikau did.
Nowadays, I'm more of a fan of one-sided Ai has a crush on Conan because I think that's true in the series. Though, Ai's mental space is a little messed up, so it's hard to tell if she actually likes him or if she feels guilty for playing a part in messing his life up, if she sees him as her chance at breaking free from the Organization, if she views him as a protector and source of comfort, or what exactly.
I look for her to actually end up with Mitsuhiko when they're older. Mitt-chan's such a cutie. I think he's going to be a great guy when he's grown up. He'd be good for her. So I guess I like kind of one-sided, angsty AiCon turning into MitsuAi. I've never read any, though. I actually don't read a lot of fanfics. I mostly just write. ^.^;
Another thing you should know about me: I talk too much. -.- Have a nice day!
