Lol, I need to get a jump on reading this! I love Kaito's pony and cards are a perfect symbol for him (especially since it was hearts and spades, but I'm not sure if you actually meant for the symbolism to be there...) can't wait to see the girls!

XD That was hilarious, Mikau! Absolutely amazing! XD I love it! And yes, you should XD
Thanks assasin! I did intentionally choose the heart and the spades, but I was only half-thinking of "symbolism". I'll start on the girls tomorrow if I don't have a lot of homework, so be looking forward to them! It'll be my first shot at mares, so wish me luck!

Okay, so, should I be funny and make Aoko's cutie mark a mop, or be serious and make it something else? And if I'm serious, what on earth would I make it instead?

Given Aoko's arc in the manga so far, I kind of doubt she'd have one yet! She tries to grow up and act mature, and on her "date" with Kaito she tries to change her personality to how she thinks she "should" act, but she doesn't yet seem to have any sense of self definition. As far as I understand the MLP series, a cutie mark is a very defining thing, sort of an early coming-of-age mark. Aoko not having one would play nicely into her childishness and self doubt.
Also, seriously, a mop? That would be depressing.

Okay, so we got the cutie mark down. Or rather the lack of cutie mark down. But what color will Aoko and Ran be (since they look alike)? And while we're at it, what about the colors and cutie marks of Kazuha, Ran, and Sera?

I feel like Sera should be chocolate brown like her jacket. With maybe a black mane and her hat? As for the mark... Hmm. I'm not sure.
Kazuha might be a nice lilac/lavendar, and I think the omamori would be a good mark for her.
As for Ran and Aoko... I think Aoko should be dark blue, but I don't think that would be a good fit for Ran. I think she'd be more of a pink or purple pony. Do the HAVE to be the same color just because Aoyama-sensei was too lazy to come up with a completely new character design so he recycled Aoko's?
I think it's a good idea for Aoko not to have a mark, but as for Ran, I'm not really sure what would be good for her.

Okay, sounds good, but I'll wait for others' opinions as well.
Well . . . The fact that Aoko and Ran look similar are in many fanfictions . . . And since the fact that Kaito and Shinichi look similar has been mentioned more than once in the movies, so why not Aoko and Ran . . . ?

Of course they look similar. Ran's a rip off of Aoko the same way that Shinichi is a rip off of Kaito (who's actually a rip off of a character in Aoyama-sensei's earlier works). And that's fine for regular purposes, but we were talking about their colors. Ran and Aoko, while sharing some similarities actually have pretty distinct personalities.
Ran is a really mature woman who knows what she wants in life. Like ichthyophobia mentioned, Aoko is much more childish and childlike. She doesn't quiet know where she's going yet, but she has ambition and lofty ideas. Ran, while strong and sensible, has a more girly side to her than Aoko does. I think of Ran has having a more refined femininity about her. She's very elegant and poised (when she's got her temper under control). Aoko's a little more rough around the edges. She still needs some polishing. She still has to grow into herself.
The way I understand it, the pony colors should be based more on personality, right? So I think that even though Aoko and Ran look similar in the anime/manga, I don't think they would be the same color as ponies. Maybe their manes could be the same color if you REALLY wanted there to be physical similarities, but I definitely think they'd be different colors as ponies because, unlike Shinichi and Kaito who share a lot of personality traits, Aoko and Ran have more unique personalities. It just makes more sense that way if my understanding of how the colors work is right. Or is it not? I've never seen the show.

*shrugs* I've never really paid much attention to whether the color of the ponies plays into their personalities or not . . .
Let's see, the sensible, has-got-it-all-together bookworm and main character Twilight Sparkle is purple (with a purple and pink mane (I think the style of their mane and tail is definitely something that helps describe their personality, Twilight's is straight with a slight curve to it)). The refined fashionista Rarity is pure white (with a purple mane (curled)). The implusive, arrogant, but loyal Rainbow Dash is light blue (with a rainbow mane (a bit spiky)). The bouncy, fun/party-loving Pinky Pie is completely pink (both color and mane (full of curles and loops)). The country farm girl Apple Jack is orange (with a yellow mane (ponytail, no pun intended XD)). The shy animal-lover Fluttershy is yellow (with a pink mane (long with a little curve at the end)).
I'm not really good with matching colors and personalities, so . . . And no, their names don't have ANYTHING to do with their personalities AT. ALL. XD

If you want them to look similar, might I suggest making both of them a near-white pastel in slightly different colors? Most of the ponies in the show seem to be some form of pastel anyway, just because dark colors make it harder to see the expressions, but I think if you made it light enough there'd be a clear similarity without being identical. Failing that, I'd say Aoko would need to be blue (named "blue child", if she's any other color I'd worry about her parents) and Ran would probably be red. It's a huge color between her and Shinichi, and I think it's her favorite anyway. Failing that, Ran means "Orchid," doesn't it? You could go with the red-purple color that most orchids are. I'd suggest an orchid for a cutie mark, but they're kind of hard to make look like orchids. I think in general Ran is fairly oriented around family, protection (with her karate), and stability; if you could design some sort of flower shield that might symbolize it nicely. As for Kazuha, I think it'd almost have to involve cherry blossoms. Since she tends to rush in without thinking, maybe something with speed or wind? I can't say I understand her as well as I think I do Ran, though. And speaking of people I don't really understand... Sera. In terms of the plot, Sera's theme-ing is more around confusion and disruption of the status quo, but I don't know how that'd lend itself to a cutie mark. I don't know that the hat would work, since that's not really about her; it's her relation to her brother. If you want to go with the magnifying glass you've given the other detectives, you could do sort of a magnifying glass encased in or twisting into a question mark? Sort of symbolizing that she finds truth and answers questions, but she raises just as many as she answered. Also, speaking of cutie marks, Hakuba didn't get one! Light? Time? I can see him being enormously pleased to walk around with a clock on his flank.

Speaking of Sera, in series she looks male enough to be confused for a guy. How are you going to pull that off? I'd imagine some sort of hybrid between the female/male models, if that makes any sense.

Ichthy: Actually, it's only Conan/Shinichi with the magnifying glass. The reason you can't see Hakuba's is cuz he's wearing pants. Kinda hard to see a cutie mark through clothing. As for the rest, I'll think about it.
Absol: Oh, that's true. Hm . . .
