Prompt: Two or more characters that don’t usually interact. Setting: Poirot. Include the line “I wish you’d never thought of this.”
This is just a start, but I know where I plan to go with it. It may even be guessable by how the conversation goes.
Kazuha Toyama sat in Poirot Cafe in Tokyo, a cup of tea on her hands. The scent alone too away the tension from the day's workout. She looked across the table and knew her companion felt the same way.
Or she would, if she did'n' have her eyes glued t'her phone...
Across from Kazuha, Ayumi Yoshida was engaged in an activity common to middle schoolers the world over: texting.
Kazuha loudly cleared her throat. Ayumi looked up at Kazuha and blushed as she realized what she’d been doing.
"Sorry, Kazuha-shishou," Ayumi said.
Shishou. Master. She hadn't asked Ayumi to call her that; hadn't even asked for "Sensei". Ayumi had begun doing it herself, but it had become a point of pride for Kazuha to be worthy of the title. After all, Ayumi hadn't had to choose to study under Kazuha at all. If she wanted to learn martial arts, she had much easier access to Ran Kudo, formerly Ran Mouri, Masumi Sera, who at least lived in Tokyo, and a detective she spoke of often, Miwako Takagi, nee Sato. Instead of Ran's karate, Sera's Jeet Kune Do, or the self-defense taught in the police academy, Ayumi had chosen Kazuha and Aikido. She had chosen Aikido because, for someone who had been grabbed or taken hostage multiple times since the age of six, a martial art well-suited to dealing with holds and people larger than oneself had seemed the best choice.
Ayumi was an apt pupil, diligently taking in Kazuha's lessons and keeping up with the drills and exercises Kazuha assigned for the periods in between. That was why her lack of focus, albeit after the lesson, had caught Kazuha's attention.
"So who's got so much of yer attention?"
The blush that grew on Ayumi's face and sudden inability to meet Kazuha's eyes answered the question for her. Kazuha tried hard to keep her expression serious, but she felt the grin spreading on her face.
"Who is he?"
Kazuha knew she hit the nail on the head when Ayumi's face became even redder.
"An... an upperclassman," Ayumi said with uncharacteristic shyness. She went back to her phone, this time to pull up a photo of the boy.
Not bad, Kazuha thought to herself. He was a bit reedy-looking to Kazuha, by that obviously didn't put Ayumi off.
It took only a little prodding to get the details from Ayumi. She explained how they met just before she'd started middle school; being a lover of literature in general and mysteries in particular, they'd hit it off quickly. Then he'd seen her solve a case with her friends.
Kazuha felt herself frown, however, when Ayumi went on to explain that they'd already gone out together several times now.
"...and I'm hoping, when Valentine's Day comes around, Ran-neechan will help me make some chocolates."
"Um... Ayumi-chan..." Kazuha began.
She was more hesitant than usual, not at all sure how to broach the topic on her mind. Ayumi picked up on it. She stopped speaking and looked to Kazuha, her head tilted slightly.
"Ayumi-chan, I'm glad you're having a good time an' all, but don'cha think yet goin’ a bit fast?" Kazuha asked. "Ya only just turned thirteen."
The change in Ayumi's expression was instantaneous. Her smile fell into a frown and she crossed her arms.
"I wish you'd never thought of this," Kazuha heard Ayumi mutter.
