Collaborative Story Event What is this event?
Similar to the story competitions, although it isn't a contest, and rather than writing the story yourself, you will be collaborating with another person to write a story together. If there is an odd number of participants, there will be a group of three. You will have eight weeks to write a story between 5k and 10k words, starting Sunday, June 26th, and ending Saturday, August 20th.Where can I sign up?
Here in this thread! Just mention that you'll be participating and whether you want to be paired with someone like you, or if you want to be paired randomly. If you want to be paired with someone like you, post what genres, characters, themes, pairings, etc. you are comfortable or uncomfortable with in red so that we can easily see it and be able to pair you with a good match. Please also message Natsumi, Mikau, and Crimson that you are participating. (Please use the subject line "Collab Event 1".) Optional prompt: Bonds
(you do not have to do this, but if you are stuck, you can use it as a starting point) Step-by-step guidelines (do not have to follow):
Step 1: Agree on theme/prompt Step 2: Choose means of collaboration: Google Docs (recommended), PM/Email, Word/Text Editor files, etc Step 3: Decide on general plot, characters, etc Step 4: Decide about how much you both are able to/want to write Step 5: Decide on how work is split up: each write half (beginning/end), RP style: each write a certain character; each picks 1 or 2 scene;, writing 1 or 2 paragraphs and passing it back and forth; someone writes the outline and narration, and someone works on dialogue and description; etc Step 6: Putting story together, editing, revisionsIMPORTANT DATES:
Sign-Up Period: June 19th - June 25th Assigning Period: June 26th Working Period: June 26th - August 20th Submitting Period: August 21st - August 27th

Lookin' good, Natsumi. Thanks for taking point on this event!!! BTW: Sample Application: I'm in! (Yes, for realz, even though it says "Sample Application". ^.^
I'm pretty comfortable with most characters/genres/themes/pairings, though I'm most comfortable writing stories about relationships (friendship, families, or romance), and I most enjoy writing same-sex pairings, though I can do heterosexual pairings and multiple-partner relationships too.
I don't really like the main canon pairings as they stand in canon, though. I'd be perfectly willing to write KaiAo or ShinRa if we worked on the relationship to make it less toxic and dysfunctional, though.
Mostly I work with Kaito, Hakuba, and Shinichi/Conan, but I have some experience with Sera, Ran, Amuro, and Azusa too. I'd be willing to branch out.
I tend to be really critical of myself, but I think I'm a pretty poor writer when it comes to writing actual mysteries or more adventure-style, action-driven stories. I mostly do interpersonal drama/tension and emotion-driven stories. I would be willing to try writing a more plot-driven story, though. I'm always excited to learn, and I'm pretty flexible.
Additionally, I mostly write T, but I don't like using a lot of cursing, so I'd like to work with someone who's also pretty light on language. I also don't like extremely gory or violent descriptions. There are ways to tastefully describe horrific scenes without making someone's stomach turn, so I guess I'm looking for someone with a similar outlook.
I think that's all the important stuff. ^.^; I'm looking forward to this! 4649!

Can I just ask what is the bare minimum to write for an application? I dont have access to an computer before the 27th at the earliest. Im not sure how coherent I will be writing on my phone. Or should I just not apply as whoever Ill be working with would have to wait a day or two before we can get started?

I should probably try to get more into writing for the board, since a lot of the stuff I've been writing nowadays has been either RP, completely original work or NSFP (not safe for Poirot).
I'm good with all characters/genres/themes, but I'm rusty on BO and FBI characters, so if you focus a lot on them, I probably won't be any help.
As far as romantic relationships go, I can write anything that doesn't involve Akako with another male character (that is an absolute no that I'm not going to cross on my life), or the BO in general. I'm also hypercritical of KaiShin, but I can still write it if need be. I'm definitely more inclined to M/M pairings, but I can write M/F and F/F as well. Not comfortable with polyships, though.
I'm better at plotting action/adventure than actually writing it, but I can still write it, and my writing tends to be very conscience-heavy (ex., third person omniscient, rambling thoughts, etc.) and sometimes introspective, so take that how you may. Of course, I'm always willing to experiment.
As for ratings, I write under any category, but if you aren't one for crude language, I'm probably not a good fit. There are some hotheaded characters that I can't particularly write without using a bit of cursing (namely Kaito and Heiji, but Conan/Shinichi slips sometimes, too). Not too much, but enough to bump most (if not all) my fics into the T-range.
(Sorry for the bold, I can't see well in this color without it. I hope I did this right.)

Looks good, Tiny.
And Cesela, if you just want to be paired randomly, that's fine. Otherwise, just let us know if there's anything you're not comfortable with.

Count me in, though just as a heads up I will be on vacation for the first week of August and don't know how often I'll be on the computer during that time.
I'm fairly comfortable writing most characters, and I'm open to just about any genre/theme. I will say I am weak in the romance department, though I'm perfectly happy with platonic and family. I'll definitely take a stab at any romantic pairings if that's your inclination, though I am not entirely comfortable writing same-sex/poly relationships. Character-wise, my "safe" characters are the four boys and their respective alter egos, and I have lesser familiarity writing the Shounen Tantei, Haibara, the Organization members, and Akai. I am more than happy to work with new characters I am unfamiliar with, though do note that while I am almost up to date on the anime, I am playing some major catch up on the manga at the moment.
My strength seems to lie in introspective, angsty rambling that pick apart character motivations and fears, though I can write a story with a moving plot every so often. I can write a bit of action, and my humor could use some [lots of] work. I don't mind violence and gore as long as it's not overdone (unless I am making a point), and I am perfectly okay with liberal amounts of cursing. I am not a writer of bedroom scenes in general though allusions to are fine, so if that ends up being part of the work I'd rather delegate whoever is my other half for this event to write it. I am perfectly willing and eager to expand my general writing genre otherwise.
I think that just about covers it. I look forwards to working on this project with one of you!

Oooh this sounds like fun!~ I want in, but the thing is, if ever I pass the training for a position I'm currently applying for, my only free days will be Tuesdays and Wednesdays (I know. It's a weird schedule, even in my standards ). Is that okay? Aaaanyways... I'm an emotional roller coaster. One minute I can write humor, the next minute I'm angst-ing my way through a story, and I think of it as a good thing, TBH. I'm okay with genres like humor, angst, hurt/comfort, friendship and family. Not too sure if I consider myself good with romance, mystery or adventure, and I have zero experience in horror. That does not mean I'm unwilling to focus on those genres, though. I have zero confidence with writing same sex pairings (with exception for that one-sided Vermouth-in-disguise and Ran that I tried writing recently) mainly because I don't know how to make those kinds of stories flow naturally. I'm not sure about poly pairings... Sorry. I'm a hardcore KaiAo fan, although recently I've tried pairing both Kaito and Aoko with other DCMK characters. I've also written other pairings--canon and non-canon, alike--such as HeiZuha, HakuSera, one-sided GinSherry, and MakoSono. I might consider writing pairings and characters I've never written before in the near future. It's a good experiment, really. And I want my list of "first time writing this character" to grow even more (I've recently started writing about FBI/Org people). I've recently grown uncontrollably fond of the Akai siblings even if we have little to no background about them. I also like writing about kids: the Shounen Tanteidan, tiny Kaito, tiny Aoko, tiny Masumi, tiny Conan etc. (I like them for their innocence, and I personally find it challenging to form some sort of conflict for them cos... well, they're kids).Introspective is nice, IMO, especially with angst or humor. I'm the type of person who tends to look at two sides before making judgment with things, so my stories that contain characters making tough decisions are usually full of weighing options and such...or if they've made decisions, they usually question them.As a writer I'm very unsure of myself. Half the time, I don't know what I'm doing, but when I do things, they usually come out with good results which is good, but I don't know how to explain it. That said, I'd probably rely too much on my partner to say "It's okay. You're good," or be cruelly honest when the situation calls it. As for writing, I rely heavily on canon events, with exception for backstories and the like. We have little backstories to work with, especially with regards to the characters I usually write (Kaito, Aoko, Hakuba, and Masumi). To me, anything I've written is okay as long as I've captured my readers' emotions (the only story I've written that I can truly be proud of is "A Perfect Child"). I usually write T-rated fics, mostly cos of language and/or mild violence. Finally, I guess I'm okay being paired up with anyone. Let's be good friends! And whatever it is we're gonna do, let's finish it!~Okay. Was that okay? Okay. I think that's about it.

Sounds good. You'll have to work with your partner on scheduling to see if you can make it work. You don't necessarily have to be online at the same time to work with someone if you're okay PMing back and forth.

So we've got four people thus far. You've got until Saturday June 25 to get your applications in if you're interested.

Unfortunately by jumping in last minute I'm making an odd number, but count me in anyway. XD
I daresay I'm fine with any characters, but I tend to stay in the gen/friendship side of things in most of my writing. That isn't to say that I won't write pairings, I just don't have much experience in it (and I have a tendency of pulling out the really cheesy lines). The type of pairings that I do tend to write more are the established canon pairings like YuusakuxYukiko and ShuichixAkemi. I do ship M/M pairings as well, but just never tried my hand at writing them. That said, I wouldn't mind trying it out here if the opportunity comes.
My action scenes are pretty rusty and as I've already mentioned my romance scenes are even rustier, so a fic that focuses mainly on these elements may not work that well, but otherwise I'm open to genres. I mostly like writing introspective pieces, and also stories that focus on the emotional relationship/bond between two people or a group.
Well I think that's all I have to say here. I'm looking forward to working on this project with whoever I get paired up with!

It sounds like a lot of fun, but I don't know if I'd have time. Maybe on the second round?

Alright, everyone's descriptions have been accounted for, and since we have an odd number, there will be a group of three.
Taliya, neonquincy1217, and stelraetnae will be grouped together as the group of three.
TinyTantei and Mikauzoran will be paired together as the group of two.
Remember that you have eight weeks to write, from today until August 20 (Saturday), and the submitting period is from August 21 (Sunday) to August 27 (Saturday).
Good luck in your writing, and have fun!
