The deadline was supposed to be at midnight PCT, which is now, but if you think you can finish it soon, we can extend it a little more. Please say when you're done so we can start the voting.

Ooh, good question. I'll wait for Mikau to answer that one. I set up the poll this time because she wouldn't be able to in time.

Greetings! Looks like things worked out in the long run. Good, good. As for voting, I'll still be closing it Saturday. We had three entries by the deadline that people could have already started reading today, so there's no problem keeping Saturday as the end date. There are only five entries, so there should be enough time. The trend seems to be that seventy percent of the votes come last minute anyway, so. All right. Bed time. I just wanted to poke my head in and make sure all was well before I passed out. Night guys! Thanks again for starting the voting, Natsumi!

Pretty close contest. Congrats, Ichthy! Just let me know when you have the next theme and the prompts. The next contest will start next Sunday.

Congrats Ichthyophobia! Your writing is amazing, as always.
Regarding mine~ I honestly think people have something against Shinichi being a female.. *cry's in corner because I refuse to make him a true male* B-but, there are too many male detectives! And he's just so gender bender-able. Oh well! I will very subtly change your minds trough the powers of writing~!

Congrats, Ichthy!
This is my first time voting for a contest, but it was fun, and it's interesting to see how close it was!

neonkoi, I don't think it's that at all. It's all about the writing. Even if your subject, pairing, etcetera is out of the mainstream, you can win acceptance and acknowledgement with your skill as a writer. Using style, story-telling ability, unique concepts, intriguing dialogue and character interactions, and by making your reader care about your characters, feel for them and with them, you can win the audience over even with a fringe idea like making Shincihi female. I'd like to think that the other voters read each entry and choose the best one based not on what characters were used but on the merit of the writing. These aren't popularity contests. These are an evaluation of skill as a writer and how the piece was executed. That's how I decide which pieces get my vote, and I trust that the other members are doing the same to ensure a fair contest in which the best piece is picked. I wouldn't worry too much about only getting one vote. You're young and have plenty of time to improve. I was a crap writer when I was fourteen. I don't know why I was as popular as I was, but now that I've practiced and really worked on my writing, I feel competent, and people seem to truly enjoy my work. If you keep at it with determination and dedication, you'll improve too. So don't give up! ^o^ As for making Shinichi female, I wouldn't say that I'm opposed to it--I always keep an open mind--but I have to say that I don't understand the reason behind it. Do you not like Sera? If you're looking for a strong female character to work with, why not write about Ran or Kazuha or Satou? Use Aoko and explore her dream of becoming a cop. While the girls don't usually get the spotlight in DCMK, they are there for you to play with. I suppose my biggest disconnect with changing the sex of a character is that it doesn't change anything about them besides which restroom they'd be permitted to use, so what's the point? If you ever take a college course in Gender and Women's Studies, you'll learn that, while biological sex is a thing, "gender" is a social construct. There is nothing beyond genitalia that makes a female fundamentally different from a male. Gender roles are something created and perpetuated by our society, not something inherently built into us. You should look into it. It's actually a fascinating field of study. Anyway, those are my thoughts and opinions if any of that is helpful to you. I honestly don't think your female Shinichi is your problem since I believe that my fellow voters cast their votes fairly by analyzing the entries and deciding which one was best written, which one did they most enjoy, which one had the most unique concept, and which one made them feel something among other criteria. Instead of changing your interpretation of characters, try changing your approach. Experiment stylistically. Maybe change the POV or narrator. Play around with tense. I think the most helpful thing, though, is tearing your work to pieces yourself. When you're a harsh critic to yourself, your work improves. Instead of publishing work right away, I prefer to let it sit for a few days so that I can re-approach it with fresh eyes and a new perspective. That always helps me be more honest with myself about how good a piece actually is. ...Just don't get so self-critical to the point where you assume everything you write is trash like I do. ^.^; Hopefully that was helpful. Best of luck on your writing journey! ^.^

It was super helpful! About Shinichi being female.. I honestly have no idea why I do that, I just think it works. I mean, Sera is amazing! However, she's really the only other known female detective so I wanted to even out the odds. I do want to test things out with other characters, but I don't want to do that just yet. I'm waiting for some unknown reason. Also, you're an amazing writer so don't criticise yourself too harshly. By the way, your whole reasoning on different bathrooms made me laugh. Well, there goes my water... Thank you Mikauzoran!

Oh gosh, thanks everyone! I wasn't really expecting to win this time.
Anyway, I'm not sure if my idea for the next theme is an appropriate theme? I was thinking maybe we could do AUs. If that's an acceptable theme, the optional prompts would be historical, magical, and roleswap. Thoughts?
