(Tantei-kun is really scary! Haha!)
Kaito returned Hakuba's gaze before letting out an exasperated (and over-dramatic) sigh. "There is such a thing as being too stubborn and nosy," he informed the detective. "But I guess if it'll help you rest easy..." Kaito trailed off. He hadn't expected himself to give in so easily. He must be more tired than he thought. After all, he had spent the past few days with almost no sleep practicing and getting ready for tonight's show. There was no going back now. "Make sure to stay away from the building next door...especially the roof."
Since tonight was a full moon, the chances of those men ambushing him on the roof was increased. He knew that Tantei-kun would be at the heist anyway since it was a challenge by Jirokichi Suzuki. He had specifically invited the Shounen Tanteidan to divert his favorite critic's attention to keeping track of his friends' actions. It would take the tiny detective time to chase him to the roof...more than enough to safely glide over to the building next to the heist location, thus keeping any unexpected visitors safe from harm.
As for why he was telling Hakuba about the roof switch, even Kaito didn't quite know. He wanted to show Hakuba that he really did trust him but he didn't want to have his best friend getting hurt trying to help him either. He didn't want to ever lose someone important to him...not ever again.
Kaito gave a small smile to his best friend and gave him a big hug, though it wasn't nearly as tight as the first. "Goodbye Haku-chan! I'll see you tonight so don't let that Suzuki girl take you away!" Before Haku a could respond angrily, Kaito ran out of the mansion, laughing. It would only take a second for his classmate to realize that his hand was hand-cuffed to the door handle, making it impossible to go after the magician for more answers.

Ah, just like him to assume that he knew what her reaction should be. Haibara cleared her throat, but kept her voice low as she replied to his aside.
"Anger does not justify revenge. I thought you've put away more than enough murderers to realize that." And even if Conan wasn't looking to kill KID, it was all the same. "You're letting your emotions get the best of you again."

Rolling his away, he waved her words away. “Come on, it´s only Kid. Not to mention there are many types of revenge, mine will be almost harmless.” He knew better than anyone did the consequences of revenge, but he also wasn´t stupid enough not to realize that sometimes, revenge could be rather harmless. Sometimes, revenge could actually be a rather funny, especially between friends. As long as no ill intention played any role in it, Conan though revenge could be amusing. At least when Kid was involved.
“Plus, it´ll be fun! Don´t you want to have fun just a little? You spend all day trying to come up with an answer for our little problem, I think it´s time you relaxed just a tiny bit.” And no, he was not letting his emotions get the best of him. “As long as we maintain our profile low, or at least you, I am already known as Kid Killer, they won´t even notice us.”

Saguru didn't have a chance to react, to reply to Kaito's admission about the roof next door to the heist location. He'd wanted to thank the magician for his confidence, to converse further about a possible plan...but then Kuroba dropped the serious look on his face and replaced his solemn tone of voice with a glib, playful one. He bounced back into his trickster, class clown persona, giving Saguru an unexpected hug before bouncing off like an enormous Easter Bunny. ...Leaving Saguru handcuffed to the doorknob. Drat. He debated shaking his fist and yelling rude things in French at Kaito's fast-retreating back, but that just seemed like a waste of time and effort. Dealing with Kuroba Kaito aka The Kaitou Kid was a lesson in futility for the English detective. With a deep sigh, Saguru called out, "Baaya? Could you do me the favor of bringing me the wire cutter? I seem to be handcuffed to the door." He didn't have time for this nonsense. He had to prepare for the heist this evening...starting with picking out a suit that didn't look like "a wallpaper pattern from the Victorian Era" as Kaito often described a vast majority of Saguru's apparel. Apparently the Brit didn't have much of a fashion sense, his friend was slowly teaching him. Therefore it would take time to prepare both physically and mentally for the evening's gala. Saguru lost five minutes and thirty-six point four valuable seconds waiting for Baaya to fetch the wire cutter. This gave him plenty of time to rethink his adamant refusals to learn lock-picking from Kaito. Thankfully, his trustworthy caretaker finally came...but he could have sworn he heard her snicker something about "kinky foreplay" and "bondage fetish". Saguru considered screaming for the nth time that despite Kaito's playful flirting, things were not like that between them. He also revisited a plot to make Kaito pay for his abuse by publicly flirting with Nakamori Aoko...but that would be petty and ungentlemanly. "I wish you would take an interest in someone that didn't leave you all tied up, Dear," Baaya tittered as she freed her charge. ...Come to think of it, Hakuba Saguru was a flawed human being, perfectly capable of petty, ungentlemanly behavior when provoked. He'd have to see about some retribution after this heist business was over. (Someone's tired. I feel like I'm rambling aimlessly. ^.^

Ayumi listened to Conan and Ai's back and forth. Well... up until they started whispering. What were they talking about that they didn't want to tell the rest of them?! It almost looked like they were flirt- No! Stop it! She shook her head, mentally berating herself about jealousy. Besides, Conan-kun doesn't like Ai-chan like that! She noticed that Conan unconsciously began to lean in a little closer. Does he?
The brunette frowned, she was losing him! But what could she do? She knew she couldn't compete with Ai... Wait. That's it! The heist! This was her chance to impress him!
She nodded to herself, solidifying her resolve. Now think.... Her face scrunched up in concentration. "What if we turned the target against him? Like replacing the real gem with a fake that releases sleeping gas when it's moved?"

Adding the final touches to her makeup, Suzuki Sonoko grinned with satisfaction at her appearance before putting away her cosmetics in her purse and checking her hair and dress one more time. Nodding with self-approval--definitely worthy of KID-sama’s presence, she thought with a giggle--she exited the public restroom and headed into the exhibit hall that had been turned into an extravagant gala.
The large hall seemed to emanate an air of a Western style casino, with gambling machines along the walls of the room and poker tables sporadically placed in the middle. An elegantly woven carpet, a mix of red wine, gold, and splashes of greens and blues threads in the intricate patterns, lined the floor, while golden chandeliers flooded the room with ambient light. Several staff members were dressed in traditional white button downs with black vests and slacks, and each held a tray of refreshments or facilitated a small game of poker at the tables not being used by guests to rest.
As Sonoko walked into the room, she was greeted by several guests as well as a task-force member or two--all of which she greeted back in kind as she continued on her way. She was looking for her parents, who had asked to speak with her once she returned from freshening up in the restroom. Once she spotted them, talking amongst themselves, she made her to them.
“Ah, Sonoko, you’ve returned.” Her mother, Suzuki Tomoko, greeted, a mischievous smile on her face.
Sonoko nodded, asking warily at seeing her mother’s smile, “What was it you wanted to tell me?”
“We’ve invited Hakuba Saguru-kun, and we want you to keep him company.”
“What?!” Sonoko exclaimed loudly, gaining a few looks from those around them, but she ignored them as she hotly continued, “You invited him behind my back?! Do you think just because Ran and Makoto-san couldn’t make it today, I’d suddenly be buddy-buddy with Hakuba-san?!” She crossed her arms over her chest. “I’m your daughter, not your doll!”
“We didn’t say you had to marry him or anything,” her father Shiro explained. “We just want you to accompany him during the gala. Entertain him, maybe become friends, you know?”
Sonoko huffed. “Are you being serious? ‘Entertain him?’ Are you hearing yourselves?”
“Just for a bit.” Tomoko pleaded. “Like anata said, just try to become friends.” After a moment she added, “And if we see that you’re pointedly avoiding him, we will prevent you from being present when KID appears and from seeing Makoto-san when he returns.”
“You can’t do that!” Sonoko retaliated.
Tomoko narrowed her eyes. “We can and we will. Now, enjoy the gala with Hakuba-san.”
The two walked away from her, leaving Sonoko with her jaw dropped in mortification. Suppressing the urge to rip out her hair in frustration, she wished Ran were here to calm her down and allow her to vent properly. Seeing, however, that she was not, Sonoko took a deep breath, the frustration slowly washing away from her face, and sought out the blond that was the root of her anguish.
It wasn’t that she hated the blond--on the contrary, he was mature, smart, and quite handsome (all pluses in her book) and from the few meetings with him, he seemed pleasant to be around, if slightly time obsessed and awkward at times. No, what frustrated her was what her parents wanted with him--to marry her. She had Makoto-san! And they had accepted him after he had proved himself, so why the heck were they not getting off her case?! She sighed again, pushing her anger to the back of her mind.
Finally spotting the blond after aimlessly searching, she slowly walked over to him, feeling her parent’s stare on her, and, with a formal smile, greeted him. “Good evening, Hakuba-san. Have you been enjoying yourself?” She folded her hands neatly in front of her, hoping she gave off the air of kind formality instead of the burning frustration of being forced to play nice.
(Sorry if I made Sonoko's parents OOC! And I left out where the cards were being shown because I didn't know what the Shounen Tanteidan would need with them, and so I'm letting them pick where the cards are and how they're set up and all that.)

Yamada Ren, a tall yet slim young man in his early-20s with dark brown hair and light brown eyes, was standing casually nearby where Hakuba and Sonoko were talking. From where he was, he could easily listen in on their conversation. KID had chosen this disguise since the original Yamada Ren had some trouble with his airplane ticket and was currently in Hokkaido (All KID's doing, of course!) He had already checked his traps and tricks and figured that he would bide his time until the Shounen Tanteidan showed up by following Hakuba. He hoped that it would be more entertaining than socializing with the other guests.

Agasa hummed as he drove back to Beika. He'd just gone to meet up with an old friend of his. They often ask each other for favours, his friend was always in need of a gadget or some special equipment. He hasn't said what they were for, but Agasa has managed to deduce from the requirements that they were for magic tricks. His friend was a magician's assistant a while back, it looks like he got back into business without telling him.
Draped carefully on the seat beside him was his friend side of the exchange. Three sharp suits and two beautiful dresses, custom made for the tantei-dan. (His friend always was better at home-ec.) Conan-kun's white double-breasted suit is especially noteworthy; it was made from his 'Alice in Wonderland' play costume during primary school. If Agasa's memory serves him right, Shinichi had skipped on the audition because he had thought the play was "too ridiculous". But Ran and Yukikko convinced him to do it, so Shinichi was the Ace of Spades (Sonoko was Alice and Ran was her sister). The checkered pattern from the original costume now serves as the lapel and lining of the jacket. Since Kid is targeting cards this time, Agasa thought it would be fun to go in theme. He wonders if Shinichi will recognise it.
He checks the time. They are going to be a bit late, the gala has probably already started. He hopes there'll be enough time for the Quiz.

Shaking his head almost sadly, Conan turned his attention back to his little friends. “That wouldn´t work, Ayumi. Kid is a pro when it comes to gems, he would know it was a fake just by gazing at it. Not to mention I don´t think Nakamori-san would allow us to touch the gem. You know how he can get…”
However, it was true that they needed to come up with something… anything! Since he had the cooperation of the children, maybe he should make the most out of it. After all, that stupid thief did not know how terrifying those three could be when they put their mind into it.
“Hey, how about we use Hakase´s gadget? We can study the heist place and figure out his escape routes. Then, we put traps in each of them, forcing him to go where we will be waiting for him.”

KID decided to leave Sonoko and Hakuba alone for a little while. He casually walked to a nearby poker table. It was a well-known fact that Ren Yamada was good at Poker so it would actually help his disguise. While he was playing, he kept an eye for any of the Task Force. While most were in their uniforms, he did notice a few that were blended in with the crowd. He smirked at Inspector Nakamori's attempt to fool him. He placed down his hand, effectively winning the card game.

{{ mainly to bump this thread and get things rolling again? }}
Haibara shook her head. "Feasible, but we only have a few hours until the heist. That doesn't leave much time to scout the area and strategize." Unless Conan wanted to play the role of unmitigated little genius again, of which she had no doubt, they were going to have to find an alternative. Especially since this was just as much for the other tanteidan as it was for Conan; they were supposed to play along, keep up, not be dragged forward by the only person managing to follow KID's plans step by deductive step.
(And she wasn't going to mention how many times Agasa's inventions were, for lack of a better word, lackluster.)
"Yoshida-san's idea is a start, though. Would there be a way to implement sleeping gas in any other area near the gem? KID may not expect anything of the sort, as long as he's not the one using it." She shrugged before settling back, realizing tension had seeped into her shoulders.

Conan almost pouted at Haibara´s words, he wanted to get the thief at his own game, but she had a point. There wasn´t much time left before the start, and while he would probably be able to keep up with the thief, the rest would just be left behind. A part of him felt bad about it, knowing the kids were left behind more than they deserved once they stumbled on a case. Normally in a murder case he did it on purpose, he couldn´t allow them to get hurt, but this was Kid, he would not hurt them...
"If we go with the sleeping gas idea, we´ll have to place it with care and without anyone else knowing. Inspector Nakamori won´t ever allow us to help..." The idea of sleeping gas had it´s merits. "I doubt it´ll stop him, but that´ll break the pace of the heist, and it´ll unsettle him..."
Conan wished he was Shinichi, it would be so much easier if at least one of them was taken seriously...
Suddenly, a devious idea jumped in his mind and Conan smirked, almost rubbing his hands together.
"Hey, who here wants to impersonate a detective?"

(Just so you know, I'm NPC-ing Genta, so if anyone wants him, go ahead and take him. Also, if your character speaks to him, feel free to RP with yourself and have him respond instead of waiting for me to reply as him. It'll make things go a lot faster.... Plus, I don't really want to be Genta. I just want us to get to the party so I can jump back in with Haku-chan. ^.^ Genta, who had been thinking about how good a bowl of unajuu sounded right about now, looked up at Conan's words. He cocked his head to the side, blinked, and demanded, "What do you mean, Conan? Who are we gonna impersonate?" Personally, Genta was of the opinion that they should just put out some eel dishes in order to lure Kid into a trap and be done with it. Surely Kid would come right away to eat the unagi, and then they would have no problem capturing him while he was caught up in stuffing his face. Speaking of eel... "And, hey, do you think they'll have unajuu at the party?" he added eagerly, gazing around at his friends with wide, hopeful eyes.

Resisting the urge to roll his eyes, of course Genta would be thinking about food; Conan asked the others to approach, his voice almost a whisper as he shared his idea. Even though he had checked the house for listening devices the last time he had found some, he wasn´t sure if a certain thief hadn´t added a few new ones, so he decided to play it safe.
“Nakamori-keibu won´t let us act as we wish; he thinks we are just kids with a lot of luck… However, if it is another detective… he´ll find himself hard pressed to resist, no?”
Grinning as he noticed the dark look Haibara gave him, he continued.
“I know one detective who won´t mind us using his voice. I can pretend to be Shinichi-niichan and force them to allow us to participate! They will never know it wasn´t Shinichi-niichan because he won´t rat us out!"
