Personally, I'm thinking about taking on my own prompt of Rashomon Effect. ^.^; I think it's going to be hard and I'm going to end up kicking myself in the end for taking it on since a good Rashomon Effect takes a lot of planning and hard work...not to mention skill...which I might be lacking in the mystery genre in the first place, so... We'll see.
Good luck everybody!

The Rashomon Effect definitely sounds interesting, but yeah, I can imagine that it's not easy to write. And while I'm probably terrible at writing mysteries I'm still considering it, because I love things like that .. but I also got an idea about false memories - false memories are oaky with the theme, right?

It doesn't have to be a mystery at all. A mystery is for the other contest. I'm choosing to do a mystery for this one as well. The Rashomon Effect isn't limited to mysteries though it's often employed in them. It's simply different people remembering the same event differently whether it's a trip to the zoo or where someone left their keys or how they decided to go to the Italian restaurant instead of the Mexican one. You don't have to do a mystery. That's just what I'm doing.
And the optional prompts are optional, by the way. ^.^; Kind of "Duh", but yeah. So the only thing you have to do for a work to be okay for the "Memory" theme is write a fic having something to do with memory.

I'm glad other people seem to think that the prompt I came up with sounds interesting. I was afraid people would be like "What's that? Weird." ^.^; I'm excited, even though it's probably going to be difficult.

Well, at first I kinda was like "eh? what?", but then I clicked on the link and read through it and I think I actually heard of it before, just couldn't place it with the name. But I'm a big sucker for anything psychology/brain related anyway, and memory ist such a broad and fascinating subject .. so, it's basically impossible for me to not like that prompt (or the theme in general) ^-^ And yeah, I know they're optional and I don't have to write a mystery (I probably won't), I'm simply at the 'tossing random ideas around'-stage .. though I think my brain has already made a decision while I was busy thinking about other things

Heh. I've had a half-clear idea about doing a story like this for a good long while. Picked the opening long ago, as a matter of fact.
This is an imaginary story (which may never happen, but then again may) about a bad man born of smoke and mirrors who did only good. It tells of his final bow, when the great heists were finished and the great illusions long performed; of the men who hated him and of the scheme they hatched; of the women who loved him and of the choice they finally made; of the hounds who hunted him but never - truly - sought to catch him; of how all of them found what they deserved, and none what they wanted, and finally of how he tumbled to the earth, never to fly again. It ends with a smile. It begins in a quiet little corner of a quiet little city, ten seconds before the clock strikes midnight. Some nights in the big city, people still look up from their phones and tablets, catching a sliver of something white against the pitch-black sky. But no: it's only the moon, only the stars. Kaitou Kid died ten years ago.
This is an imaginary story...
Aren't they all?
(The big comic-book geeks in the crowd can pinpoint my... erm, "inspiration" a mile off. Don't worry - the rest of the story will be far more original than this. Promise.

sounds interesting! I'm (un?)fortunately not a big comic-book geek, so it sailed way over my head, but it's really nice so far. Also, I have decided on both a title and a summary, though I don't have a plot yet. so... yeah, a summary without a plot; I'm just playing it by ear. Title: (and if you know where it came from, have a cyber cookie) A Matter of Circumstance Summary: Nostalgia begins with an ice cream shop, two stalkers, and three blind mice. [ For Poirot Cafe's Memory contest. ]

Hmmm...this prompt actually fits a fic idea I had been thinking of for a long time but never actually got around to writing... *cracks knuckles* All right! Time to crank up the HakuKai angst! (Not like I ever don't, hehehe...) Title: The Words You Used ( casually steals a line from this Bastille song) Summary: Kaitou KID is dead, a bullet through the chest, a missing body and a bloody heist note the only evidence of his passing. Everybody is trying to piece their lives back together, but when one case leads Hakuba Saguru to an overfilled foster family, he soon learns that his form of recovery involves a dark-haired boy barely months into the system. To Hakuba, Akira is just a painful reminder of the man he loved, but perhaps the boy with too many similarities to a dead thief can give Hakuba the peace he deserves - or bring back the chaos that he so sorely missed.Of course, I'll have to cut the summary for FFN, ahaha...

huh, I was still a little unclear as to what the rashomon effect actually seemed like, and this page on tvtropes helped clear some thing up with examples and such, so if anyone wants some clarification, there it is, I guess.

So, I'm a little concerned about one part of a scene from my fic that's uhm...stressing the rating a little bit? I really don't know and was wondering if someone would be willing to read that particular scene and tell me what they thought? Or in other words, if I need to tone it down? It's a bit tricky, because on one hand I don't even want to get too graphic, but on the other hand it's kind of important that it's as horrifying as possible (or as the rating allows)..so yeah. The rest is pretty harmless, it's literally only those five sentences, but if they push the rating over T, it's a problem. *doesn't know what to do*

Post in the writing advice section and put the part you're concerned about under a spoiler tag for possible mature content, and we'll see.
