Did you say something like "We're not good at Chinese. What is I..."?

In response to your question in chat, "How do I Chinese?": Wo bu dao. I don't know the hanzi for dao, though, and I don't know how to hanzi on my laptop, so...pinyin! Yay! I've always hated pinyin. I feel like a waiguoren when I use it. Oh well. OH! If just type "gaikokujin"! 外国人 There! Waiguoren!
...I miss China. There was a gorgeous park not too far from my university. Sigh.

你去过中国?你喜欢吗?我想的回中国这个夏天~ {because it's technically not conversation ;P} meh, more "my chinese isn't extremely good, but I will..." - and I forgot the word/s for try XD I think you missed a word; instead of wo bu dao, more wo bu zhi dao (我不知道) - but otherwise,你的中文很好! ? depending on your keyboard, I think you can use a trick and just type out the first letters of the pinyin if it's a common phrase, and it'll automatically plug in the rest. for example, if I type just "wbzd" for wo bu zhi dao, one of the first suggestions that come up is 我不知道!

Yes. I went to China. (Sorry. I don't write Chinese. I just read and occasionally listen.) And I liked it. It was awesome, really. Does that last part say that you wish you could go or you'd like to go...or maybe you like going over the summer? And don't lie. My Chinese sucks, dear. I survived with a guidebook and perseverance. Lots of pointing and "Jer ge. I ge jer ge." (What is the correct pinyin for what I have written as "jer"? And sorry. I hope you get a better conversation partner soon. One that can actually speak Chinese.)

glad you liked being there ^^ ooh, almost! just that I want/am thinking about going to china this summer, but otherwise, spot on. hey, if you got this far with a guidebook and perseverance, I applaud you. a lot. I think what you're looking for is "zhe" (or maybe "ze", my zh vs z isn't what it should be >.>), but I'm not too sure. //waves// no worries~ I'm sure windy and whoever else will take note of the new sub board soon enough

Yay! Thanks, Starlight! I took some lessons while I was there, so it's really the guidebook, perseverance, and Zhang-laoshi.

Wow, Mikau you've been to so many places With a guidebook? Impressive. Ahh I've only been taught traditional chinese so my writing is more complicated than simplified. Well here goes: *跳進來* 你們好!我學了有差不多十年中文。但是才是馬馬虎虎的。 很高興跟你們說!

Lonely Planet makes excellent books. Does that say that you've been studying Chinese for less than ten years? Or about ten years? And then something about mama. Horses and tigers? So...how is 虎虎 pronounced? (Sorry for ruining the flow of conversation with all of my English babble. I am unable to communicate in real Chinese.) Does that mean so-so like maamaa in Japanese? And then I have no idea what the last sentence says besides the first two characters being very and high and then there's a "you guys" in there. :/

萬歲萭歲! Yes Mikau, 馬馬虎虎 is a phrase that means so-so. Literally it does mean horse and tiger.

The conversation that was previously here, starting with imaginator's post belongs in the questions about Chinese thread and has been moved. This thread should be used for conversations in Chinese. If, like me, you can read some Chinese but can't answer back in Chinese, that's fine, but let's keep this board for the actual conversation in Chinese, okay? Thanks!
