I'm thinking he probably does have something to do with the whole NPA being in charge of the secret police... probably some connection there.

But the problem is, when there's a group, finding out which person is which.

You know, I wanted to make sure I had all these police and security agencies right and double check about the secret police and the more I'm reading, the more I'm making myself confused. There was a lot of discussion about Amuro being secret police and I went back and checked and now I'm not even sure if they actually narrowed it down to what agency it even was. There was a lot of discussion if it was the PSIA (Public Security Intelligence Agency/Public Safety Agency) which is part of the Ministry of Justice or the NPA Security Bureau or the Public Security Bureau of the Tokyo MPD... I feel the ones coming up with those theories never made it clear which one was related to the Zero and Appendix connection. I'm rereading the thread on DCTP forums.dctp.ws/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=12231 and I'm not sure if they were explaining it correctly or not or what.

How would you narrow it down even more? All I know is he's definitely part of the Secret Police. Conan himself said so, after all (though it took hours to find where it actually was *sweatdrops*)

Natsumi, what chapter did Conan say secret police again? I'm checking the Japanese wording.
Vermouth uses the term 公安 "Kouan" which I believe is short for 公安調査庁 (Kouan-Chousa-Chou)(Public Security Intelligence Agency) which if I'm correct the agents ARE NOT police. They're more like FBI or M16 agents. "The PSIA is tasked with internal security and espionage against threats to Japanese national security."

Anoooo . . . *checks the tankouban I have* Okay, so he does use "kouan", with that kanji. The exact wording he uses in that thought bubble is "kouan keisatsu no zokushou" (公安警察の俗称). Awwww

Ok I check the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department Public Security Bureau wikipedia page and that is 警視庁公安部 Keishi-chou Kouan-bu. So BOTH have Kouan, but since Conan is saying keisatsu, it would be the police one than. Ugh all these names are too similar, haha.

There's this obnoxious thing called a language barrier that makes this hard to find information on. This is the japanese wiki entry: ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/公安警察Does this translate into anything useful? 情報収集を担当する公安警察官は、「チヨダ」と呼ばれる警察庁警備局警備企画課の指導により行動することも多いと言われる。 The google translation says: "Public Safety police officer in charge of the information collection, it is said that it is also often act under the guidance of the National Police Agency security stations security Planning Division called "Chiyoda"."

I mean the PSIA is pretty awesome sounding too even if he isn't with them.

Amuro. Favorite character. Here's hoping that at the end of our current case, he's gonna show up again. I've been waiting for Conan to ask him about RUM. He had thought about it, don't forget.
