Themed Writing Contest #37: Soap Writing: August 13 - Sunday, September 3 Voting: Sunday, September 3 - Saturday, September 9 Theme selector: phantomshyraz
Theme: "Soap" Optional Prompts:
1) Opera 2) Washing One's Mouth Out With 3) Colour Themed Writing Competition Guidelines
Event Details:Each participant needs to write a short story to be posted by midnight according to the Cafe clock in the Contest Entries section of the Fanfic Library: poirotcafe.com/board/31/poirot-cafe-contest-entries . That's midnight Sunday going into Monday; you have the entirety of Sunday to work. At the end of the writing period, any member can vote for their favorite story. The winner will get a prize and get to choose the theme for the next competition. Make sure that when you post your stories on FF.net that you mention that the story was written for Poirot Cafe's competition to our readers! Let's have fun and advertise at the same time! Prize:Custom designed award badge that you can use in your signature or elsewhere. Guidelines:1. Keep stories relatively short (1,500 to 5,000, with 300 words TOPS to "wrap it up"), and please post word count at the top of your entry. 2. K-T ratings only. (Think suitable for about 14 years old.) 3. No crossovers or spoilers. 4. Must be new material written within the contest's writing period. No re-posted stories. 5. Please be fair and courteous when voting and reviewing! I'm so pleased that we've had enough participation to hold a vote for the past two contests. Hopefully we'll get some good entries for this one too.

I was going to ask how you get opera from soap, then it hit me partway through typing the question: Soap opera.

*Drops a packet of laundry detergent into the washing machine and nods* Yep. I can totally write a story about soap.

I feel like I should post something for this. At the same time, it feels weird to post for my own prompt... ( ・◇・)? I do have an idea brewing so... Should I? 「(°ヘ°)

Does this prompt keep going horribly sideways for anyone else? I've started this prompt three times now because the first two attempts spiraled rapidly into M rated darkness. I'm starting to think I had a traumatic soap related incident in another life.

Also, I was wondering... but does a fic have to have 1.5k words minimum? I seem to be having a hard time with reaching that word count for the fic I plan on submitting :/

I seem to be having a hard time with reaching that word count for the fix I plan on submitting :/ I think Belial got disqualified from the last contest because her story was too short... On another note, Mikauzoran, I wrote an entry for this, but the finished copy is sitting on a computer I won't have access to again until Wednesday. (Oops.) So if you need a 3rd entry so we can have a vote I can post it later in the week. Otherwise I'll just try to learn from my mistakes. (This is what I get for writing on my lunch breaks.)

Wyz: Yes, please see Contest rule number one under the Guidelines header for word count specifications.
NewUserNamesAreHard: I'm sorry. That really sucks when you have something done, but the world conspires against you. Better luck next time? :/ I look forward to reading what you wrote, though.

Well, I don't know if I can get in 500 more words and still make it seem alright, but I will try, at the very least. And NewUserNamesAreHard, thank you for the reply as well. I'm really new to this (with prompts, deadlines, and word count requirements), so any feedback is greatly appreciated (^_^)

Well, unfortunately, this one didn't quite get off the ground, but thanks to all of you who worked on submissions. At this point, I'm going to open the floor to suggestions for the next theme with optional prompts. If you could get your suggestions posted by Wednesday, I'll start a vote as soon as I manage to escape from work.
I really hope some of you newer people post suggestions. I feel like all my ideas are a little stale, so I'm hoping you'll share with me some of the topics you'd be interested in writing about. Anyway, I'll get us started:
Traditions: -Making New... -Breaking... -Passing On...
Shoestring: -Breaking = A Bad Omen -Tying Together -Budget
...I notice now that I used "breaking" in my optional prompts for both of those. That probably means something subconscious. Freud would probably insist that it has something to do with my parents. Good thing I think Freud is full of it. ^.^ Anyway, I look forward to hearing from you all.

Womp womp. This theme was just not meant to be apparently. But I have a suggestion for the vote. (Which I swear I had written before I read 'shoestring'.)
Shoes - Stilettos - Walking in someone else's shoes - Lucky horse shoe

That's great that you have an idea, and you can vote on whatever prompt you like after they're all in, but, until then, do you have any ideas of your own you could share with us? It doesn't matter if you actually end up participating or not, but it would be nice to have some fresh ideas to choose from. ^.^
